A change at the top table but not much change in committees. When will we ever get out of the black hole we are in? Great evening in Wexford yesterday but as a Wicklow man I was almost embarrassed to be sitting there watching the enthusiasm and excitement. When you go to Aughrim it brings it all home.

Replying To Albundy19:  "Glad to see roundwood beat Tomnafinogue in the 17s today as these group teams are a joke ,that combined team had two teams in finals today, there were 10 from Tinahealy on the A team and obviously a few on the second team so they could easily get a team out on their own. When will these combined teams realise that historically their is no future in underage group teams when it comes to seniors st Nicholas being a case point with Donard and Dunlavin at nothing at senior."
I was in Aughrim yesterday and was happy enough Roundwood won. Some great players on show with the majority on the winning side. The standard of reffing in this game was appalling to say the least. After witnessing two good performances from the referees in the drawn and replayed senior finals this was miles off from him. Red card looked a correct call but he didn't make that one either! Tomnafinogue fooling nobody only themselves in the long term. On to the under 19 now where it should be a good championship if the weather allows.

congrats to neighbours Barndarrig. Great win on Saturday. Annacurragh were a poor team but almost snook it. All the badness caught up on them in the end really. Great celebrations down that way since Saturday. Arklow will feel we left a championship behind after looking at senior final. It was worth the few quid for excitement but not high on quality. No major incidents until linesman made a big mistake. Was right in front of me and he was totally wrong. Referee correct to throw the ball in and he had a good steady game in fairness to him. Blesssington have left it behind them many think. Their supporters turned up in big numbers for a change. Both sets gave torrid abuse to the officials all through the game. As a former ref myself it was hard to listen to. Big crowd coming again next week.

Replying To roseyinthegarden:  "Look you have got to realise that playing for your county is not the be all and end all that it was years ago. Players have other commitments . It's OK for bigger counties to have that lure to entice players in. We don'thave it. I don't blame the players."
We don't have it because the county board doesn't encourage it or make it any way enticing or beneficial to play hurling for Wicklow. It is going on years. The sad part is we actually have a better chance of winning something at the level we compete in when it comes to hurling than we do in football. I heard it in the Rocks weeks ago that this might happen. The county board are culpable and thats final.

Hurlers off to London in the early hours of Sunday morning to play a game at 1pm and flying back later that evening. We really do make it attractive to represent our county. The hurlers are an inconvenience at this moment to our overworked county administration.

Replying To Tank:  "The hurlers wont win one match. The footballers might win one match. That is not being pessimistic just the likely scenario. We have got ourselves into this mess, we will be division 4 for the next 5 years. If Kevin Quinn ever pulls out we would be division 5! There are plenty who could be added to the panel but there is no player that could be added that would be a guaranteed starter. A lot of key players in the clubs are 35+. I wonder how much a nights stay in Clare/Sligo costs v driving up and down the one day? 6K - 12k? Mega money spent on senior squad for what will be a maximum one victory. We keep the score respectable because we play 15 players behind the ball, we will only ever loose by 6 points. And no every other county do not use this tactic!! If we don't score an early goal its impossible to ever win this way at this standard. In relation to county board, I would also add the additional scenario - there are highly intelligent capable people in very well paid corporate jobs that would love to assist, however, they would be very alien - (a) average age is over 60, (b) politics involved as described in above posts (c) you would be dealing with people in positions/on boards for 30 year - very hard to change, (d) very little have worked in corporate world. How would this type of person take a position on the WCC? How many people under the age of 50 attend county board meetings anymore? We need about 5 new lads coming in together - they will draw more similar minded people in and get rid of 90% of the board. A lot of people are turning (and have) their back on GAA in the county due to the declining state over the past 20 years. Just look at attendances even. Every facet of the county is in a worse state than it was 20 years ago. Don't come on here and start about there are big improvements going on at underage - people have been saying this the last 10 years on this forum. We are now so far behind we need about 4 Leinster semi final appearances in a row in Leinster minor/20s to have any impact. Dean Healy will not be playing next yr - what 18/19/20/21/22/23 year old will take his place? Im resigning from posting here also. The stuff that has went on in this county over the past 12 months has my mind made up."
Go nowhere please because that post is a brilliant synopsis.

Replying To FrankieJoe:  "The county board socials are rubbish for the likes of that and a poor showing when you see counties like Carlow putting up highlights. They're too busy telling people to buy tickets in advance for matches. Seems to be the main priority."
We have the worst socials in the country bar none. Impossible to get information and not acceptable.
