Replying To Freethinker:  "I'm not sure that you have picked up the reference to Kerry correctly. My reading of it was as a question - Are we heading the same as Kerry. Not quite the same as saying" if it's good enough for Kerry ". You do make valid points about some of the combinations though. Some of those in the west are probably correct and have been proven to work well. Mostly these combinations are competitive but not dominant. It's hard to figure why the likes of Balto need an influx of players from other clubs, unless there are no other clubs close by. Even then, if Balto play these kids, some of their own are being left on the sidelines. Is this the correct way forward ? Hardly, in my opinion. I wasn't aware that Blessington were playing other clubs players. Surely Blessington has one of the fastest growing populations in the county. I suppose at the same time, and in fairness to all, without knowing the exact circumstances of these cases, all we can do is offer our general opinions. There may be genuine reasons why this is happening."
Well maybe then its just me saying 'If it's good enough for Kerry...' In terms of landscape, population and demographics Kerry is probably more like Wicklow than Dublin or even Kildare. You have big populations in Tralee Killarney etc but numerous extremely small junior clubs and dotted around the likes of North Kerry who band together to field teams at underage calling themselves Feale Rangers and so on. East Kerry have won a couple of championships but before that club Austin Stacks and Dr Crokes had their day. No system is perfect but we should be looking to successful counties for inspiration. In Wickow in terms of senior and adult football in general, which in my opinion is ultimately the end game, the underage amalgamations haven't done Blessington Baltinglass Rathnew or St Pats any harm at all. I don't think Baltinglass or Blessington have any clubs playing with them anymore but a while back it caused a lot of hassle.

Replying To Htaem:  "I accept we will be favourites and as such we will be expected to win but I doubt many people are expecting us to win easily. I've been to the last 5 championship meetings of Meath and Wicklow and of those 5 games we only won easily once, back in 1999, the year we last won the All Ireland!!! Every other meeting has been a tight, hard fought affair, granted I think we ran out comfortable winners in 2004 but if I remember correctly Wicklow were leading by 2pts in the second half when one of their midfielders was sent off (was Clancy his name?) and that completely turned the tide. Wicklow will get stuck in and make things very awkward for us this weekend, so it should hopefully be an entertaining game."
Ye was at that game in 2004, Ciaran Clancy Ballymanus... he was just on as a sub as well I think

Where did Jordan Kiely go? When Dr Crokes won the all Ireland club they were in the lucky position that they could bring on Tony Brosnan, Burns and Kiely. Of the three I thought Kiely would be the next big thing. The other two are starting for Kerry now but Jordan didn't even feature in club football this year? Did the emergence of David Shaw force him out? You would have at least expected him to feature when Brosnan got injured for Crokes this year https://www.sportsjoe.ie/gaa/dr-crokes-deadly-super-sub-must-prolific-goalscorer-country-184550

Replying To KingdomBoy1:  "The crokes are strong up front alright clon, when you think gooch can only get on for the final 10 mins in games. Looney O'Leary Shaw and Brosnan are excellent and I'd have gooch and Jordan kiely ahead of him from the dubs but I'd have an on form burns ahead of Gavin O'Shea . Jays they have a seriously strong forward line alright but corrofin are excellent at the back as well."
Jordan Kiely must be the unluckiest youngster in football. All Ireland minor winner in 2014 and he scores for fun when selected by Crokes. He'd be on most inter county panels IMO. Maybe a bit like Tony Brosnan he needs a couple years to find his way but I'd start him ahead of Gavin O'Shea.

Stand Him Up - 1 Like(s)

Replying To KKid:  "I would have always said it was to stop a player when he was running don't overcommit to the tackle and essentially make him turn or stand upright as a defender. As an attacker I would have thought it was to make the defender stop, so you would run, stop the run quickly and then keep running, have him plant his feet. Means nothing really when said more than 2 or three times a game."
I never thought of it from an attackers prepective but yeah agreed. Any time a player either attacker of defender is brought to a standtill or flat footed by the opposition.

They won the minor and U20B championship last year and with all those young players coming through this is their ambition at adult level? Sad... could be wrong but I don't think they have won a single game in the senior championship group stage this year either.

Anyone any idea when club games are resuming? I had assumed when the government permitted games from the 7th June there would have been a mad scrabble to get fellas playing again? I'm not involved with any adult clubs anymore but I have a keen interest and I have asked around and there seems to be nothing doing in terms of games?

Replying To Kerry15:  "He's been injured nearly constantly for the last few years as far as I know. Wouldn't have been county standard anyway but could be a decent club player if his luck with injuries cleared up."
That's tough. It's always difficult to see young players cut down like that. I defo would have put him on a par with Burns from what I saw at Kerry underage and ahead of Gavin O Shea and some of the guys still playing with Crokes. But maybe you have seen him more. Hopefully he has a second coming

Any idea of the team? Who are all the injuries John Evans talks about in his interview on the main page?

There's a potts lad too? He was excellent for kerry underage teams.. did he play this year?

I see the u21s were well beaten in Leitrim yesterday. Anyone at the game? Would have thought on paper at least this was a reasonable strong panel.

if Dunlavin beat Kilmac, then Kilmac wont have much to fight for in their last game against Ballinacor? Dunlavin are gone Id say! They'll come to regret that slow start against Ballinacor
