Down Vs Leitrim

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I think its clear that no one gives us a chance this weekend with so many injurys and lads leaving the panel! anyone know what our strongest 15 are at this stage?? I honestly think down will put up a criket score against us as we have no belief left and with so many gone from the squad!!

@ nunu any man thats given a leitrim jersey is given it to go out and play at full pace for 70 mins plus injury

Any man that makes the county team should be privileged to be there and play to their full potential

It's not about cameras or media or look at poor old leitrim it's about 15 men going out on a field using their skills to contest an opposing team and win

Why would our heads be down?

Yes a few players have left for America j1's this summer and a few more injured and other personal circumstances weddings etc

But why the negativity?

Surely these lads are entitled to a break in their career for 3 months or get married

Why not come on here and post positive comments about how well Darren Sweeney played last weekend for his club

Or how about which choice keeper we will have Farrelly or Lyons?

I intend on going to the game and im.going to support my county and their manager win draw or loose and I don't want black clouds over them a week before the game

Down fair enough are 2 divisions above us in the league a good hard Ulster team not afraid toplay hard and cute aswell but down are an ageing team that lost the 2010 allireland to cork

First time ever they lost an allireland by the way

Im looking forward to the game I like Newry andhhave relatives nearby

good luck lads I'll be there to cheer ye on

94 what a difference a year makes, you lambasted last years management team for making a tough decision based on asking players to show some respect to the jersey. Now because you know the current management set up you are giving them a free pass on making decisions that could only at best help in the very short term. I don't expect much as through no fault of Hagan's Leitrim football is in free fall. Clubs are at the worst standard as I can remember. Every other county seems to be much stronger than us. I heard the Carlow player, Brendan Murphy saying last weekend that their county players much rather play for their clubs. What is our excuse? No one wants to play for the clubs or at least put in a big effort with their club. The club competitions are run off for the sake of being run off with no heed being given to development. We cannot expect any manager to get results when our club scene is as weak as it is. Now the county minors easily forget, for them to reach their potential as senior footballers they need a healthy club scene but by discarding their clubs 2 weeks before a Connacht minor game seems to be ludicrous. What better preparation could they get for the heat of battle than going out representing their clubs in local derbies. Yes the risk of losing 1 or 2 players was always going to be there but if they are training hard they will run the same risk at training. Shortsighted to say the least. We are going no where until we trust a manager who will oversee the club structures so that there is a defined time for club/underage/ and county games. The clubs should be used to maximise the squads of all our county teams not seen as an excuse to protect county players from.

19 o clock next Saturday in pairc elser

I'll be there

Few upsets today a division 4 longford beat a division 1 finalist Derry

Tipp a top division 4 team almost caused cork a major upset cork lucky to get away with 2 points to spare

A poor Galway just passed Sligo so connacht is mayos for the taking

Be great to be able to say leitrim were lifting the nester cup for the 4th year in a row

Anything is possible

i would say the minor match will be the place to be, dont fancy going into pairc esler although we have a better panel to pick from since the armagh debacle last year

the main question is will the connacht council cooperate and allow us to take both games in?

If they need some heart to take in to the game then look at what Longford did to Derry. (a team 22 positions higher in the league)

Clare almost caught them a couple of years ago as well.

Best of luck lads ! Well capable.
