Replying To Mailman98:  "Skehill, Coen, Tuohy, Niall Burke, Concannon, Flynn and Haran definitely in last chance saloon. Cathal Mannion and Conor Cooney sailing close to the wind now too. A few others who need to pull their socks up like Loftus and Killeen but they haven't had quite as many untaken chances to impress as the aforementioned players just yet."
I don't think Cathal Mannion is the "last chance saloon" category in fairness as only for himself and Conor Whelan, Galway won have lost by much more than 1 point against Waterford the last day. Haran did well enough in the Westmeath game and he has only played 2 league games so at least give him a chance to impress! The others you mention definitely need to improve but ready made replacements for those players are thin on the ground currently unfortunately.

What matches are you watching, Cathal Mannion is one of Galways best players. Tadgh has only played 2 league games very good against westmeath. And did ok against Waterford. Flynn has it we just need to find the start switch. He has played in the square maybe especially in training he should be persisted with and coached to go goal. I agree niall burke has lost form . Cooney deserves to be in the squad. Probably two many thurlough players in the squad.

Cathal Mannion.... engage the brain before you let your fingers start typing. One of the few players to come out of last season with reputation intact and ended up filling holes everywhere. Midfielder, scorer from play and by the time the half time whistle had been blown in Parnell Park he was asked to take the frees too. Rather than close to the wind he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

Cathal Mannion is possibly our best player the last 15 months-since the All Ireland loss really

Tadhg Haran would be a great addition as goalkeeper. Has all the attributes of a great keeper. The way teams are set up now it is the most important position on the pitch and we are seriously lacking in consistency in this way. Even as good as Colm Callanan was, his puckout accuracy was his weakest attribute but he made up for it with top class shot stopping. Our pick at the minute wouldn't draw water to him. Eoin murphy, Quaid, Hogan, even Enda Rowland are way ahead as regards puckouts and set plays. League success depends heavily on a 90% free taker and a high percentage accuracy goalkeeper. Something we have not had at all this campaign.

D.Burke, P.Mannion, GMAC,JC, & Whelan are probably the only definite starters on current/past form, with Touhey, D. Burke and C. Mannion also likely . That still leaves half the positions on the starting 15 still up for grabs for this years c'ship, its fair to say that SON is now In rebuilding mode

For me the form of David burke and Johnny Cone has not been Good since All Ireland win. So these 2 would not make my team.

From the team announced tonight looks like management are determined to stick with the under performing players. How is Conor Cooney, Niall Burke and Sean Bleahane still starters and Haran the one to go.?

With the team announced tonight management sticking with under performing players. Would wonder at Haran dropping to the bench and Conor Cooney, Niall Burke and Sean Bleahane picked ahead of him to start. Strange going on...

I was suspect of the starting team too, but very impressive win today v Cork and a highly important win.
Knockout all the way as it was today.... beat the mighty Tipp next Sunday and its Wexford in the Quarter Finals!

A very important win, glad to see Flynn show up well in the first half nice goal also, however he was playing hide and seek in the second half . G mack played with passion but he got scalded for the Cork goal miss.
Overall this was a weather effecting match where all we can take from the win is a confidence booster. Tipperary next win would give more confidence. We need to stick with Flynn and Whelan next week , David burke to start, niall burke on bench hopefully JC back.

A great day for Galway GAA hurling. A win for the senior men's team against Waterford. And a win for the Sarsfields ladies in the Camogie club final. Onwards and upwards. Gaillimh abú

Agree totally.... Happy with the increasing work rate too. Conor Cooney was also very decent today fair play to him. Need to improve on the wide count but that will come. Niland look lively when introduced along with Sean Linnane. Looking forward to TIPP

Definitely the Wide count needs to be tidied up... I think 16 wides v Waterford 17 wides v Cork but at least we are creating chances.
Had we 6 regular free takers for their Clubs on the field at the same time?
C.Mannion....Ahascragh/Fohenagh
N.Burke........ Oranmore-Maree
J.Flynn............Tommy Larkins
C.Cooney.......St. Thomas'
C.Whelan.......Kinvara
E. Nilland.......Clarinbridge (sub)
All them lads are good free takers even with JC not starting we still miss some scoreable frees?

Cooney doesn't take the frees anymore. Mannion and Whelan are "forced" free takers in as far as I don't think it's a natural part of their game. Flynn, Burke and Niland are out and out free takers from a young age.

SON had C.Mannion C.Cooney J.Flynn and E.Niland all taking frees at different stages of the Match today. That's 4 different free takers and we still chalked up about 17 wides alot of them from frees.
O'Neill obviously hasn't a clue as to who should be first choice Free Taker when Joe isn't starting.
