O'Reilly

Kavanagh Lawlor Molloy
K Nolan Redmond Gannon
Bren Murphy Foley
Brian Murphy Hayden P Hickey
Coughlan/Mullins Ledger Reid

Maybe? I'm probably forgtting a couple of obvious ones there, and I hope I am. But that would be an ok side to start with.

@Barrowsider, Laois are a small county in fairness, also. But they seem to make better use of their resources than we do in a GAA context.

However, I agree with the general tone. It's pre-season, we were missing a half dozen first teamers and blooded a lot of young lads as well as welcoming back some prodigal sons.
It's time everyone took a chill pill. The aim is to finish top two in division four. Not stay up in Division One or Two and we were playing teams of that standard.

As for Thomas Walshe, he has not retired from football, he is working in the States for a while like many others have been forced to do. Other counties have been hit much harder by emigration than us.

There are 14-16 players in there who are well up to county football right his minute - another 5 or 6 have promise with the right coaching and dedication. And I think the return of Reid and Hayden is good news if they keep their discipline. Two very talented lads.

I think our 7 point defeat to Leix has been put into some perspective by the even bigger beating they gave Wexford down in Wexford today. Yes, we were rubbish on the day but they are a Div. 1 team and punished every mistake we made.

Of course St. John will probably say Leix are not actually a Div 1 team until they actually play their first game next weekend!

I don't really care to be honest. I'm more worried about how badly we performed about them.

laois had a much stronger team out today than they had against us only two of their normal starting team against us plus the fact they had 13 men for the second half so i wouldnt be getting too carried away

Only two of their normal starting team against us, did you say Hillbrook???? That is simply not true. I don't know what team they had today but against us they started, by my count, with 10 regulars and they brought four more on as subs.

You could also count Donoher as a reg....Mayo will let us know if we are Div 1 standard or not on Sat night OB. We have our work cut out to stay in this division but they thought the same last year and predicted a Div 3 football for us but instead contested a wonderful final with Donegal.
The very very best of luck to Carlow in their upcoming league. I really do hope ye make a push for promotion and build on the good C'ship of last year.

well we had our championship team out against a laois second team and only that laois had 13 players we would have been beaten by 20 points our 6 forwards who have all played championship football could only score 1 point from play between them and our 6 backs who have also played championship let 4 forwards score 1-14 not looking good

Mulligan and Conway have never played a league or championship game for Laois - this is their first year ever on senior squad - dunno how you'd call them regulars.
As someone else said Donoher is a regular.
As well as that Colm Kelly could hardly be called a regular - he's back on the squad after three years off it!

Sorry heraf, it seems I should have said nine regulars (not 10) and four as subs, mea culpa. I'm still wondering if hillbrook will enlighten us by naming the 13 on the Leix team that he regarded as not being regulars?

Kealy , Gary Walsh , A Mahon , Mulligan , Conway , C.Kelly is the full list of non regular's.

That's not including the likes of Donie Kingston , Padraig Clancy , Mark Timmon's , John O'Loughlin , Craig Roger's , Donie Brennan , Barry Brennan , Robbie Kehoe , Padraig McMahon , Denis Booth or Daithi Carroll from last year's squad? I'm missing a fair few more but as you can see there were alot of serious options not even togged out that day against Carlow.
