Intermediate Football Championship 2017

(Oldest Posts First)

not much talk about the intermediate championship on here so il get it started.

the group with Naomh Eoin, Eire Og, Grange and Kilbride still looks wide open eire og sprining a shock against grange in the opener then being beaten by kilbride while myshall have drawn both there games, very competitive group.

the other group had Kildavin-Clonegal giving Clonmore a heavy beating in round one then the Fighting Cocks beat them in round two with ballinabranna on a loss and a win aswell. id expect clonmore to be relegated as they really arent showing much fight to stay in the intermediate grade.

also watching both games in fenagh the other evening where K/C played Fiighting Cocks and Eire Og played Kilbride, i taught the standard of refereeing was abysmal, especially in the first game mentioned. How a row (and there was boxing it wasnt just handbags) could start with most of the players on the field and go on for almost a minute and a half and then the ref doesnt even give a card, yet he never consullted with linesmen/umpires.

i expect the smi finalists to be Fighting Cocks, Kilbride, Naomh Eoin and Kildavin/Clonegal.

The Intermediate is actually very competitive. Any team bar Clonmore can win this. I think Kildavin are too reliant on older lads like Daiti Byrne, Sinnott and Aidan and Paul Kelly. All these guys are approx. 35 yrs old. They will miss St Ledger, Daryl Roberts and now their top scorer Joe Roberts has left for London also. Kilbride could win it, very strong and can take scores with Foley and Nolans and Currys. Fighting Cocks are fit and with half of their team coming from the blues they can score also. Eire og depend on not loosing players to seniors but very dangerous. If Grange can pull through the 'group of death' they really can win it also. Very strong starting 15 but probably short a few subs. Should make for great viewing anyway!

Not much about the intermediate this year! Two small clubs in the final. Kilbride and Grange, any thoughts? I think Kilbride could just be stronger and especially around the middle with Darragh Foley, not sure whether Grange have anyone to mark him in that area. But I would like to see Grange win it be good to see them back senior again but I think Kilbride will be too strong.

Was anyone at the game? Any standout performances? How will Kilbride fare in the Leinster club championship next weekend?

Was at the game and although quality wasnt the greatest, was a very entertaining game. Grange started the better but got hit by 3 goals in 5 minutes as Kilbride blitzed them. Poor play from Grange full back and keeper caused all sorts of problems. Willie Quinlan made some changes then but it was too late. Grange the better team in 2nd half but couldnt bridge the gap.
Darragh Foley was excellent and Eoin Nolan kept John Murphy quiet but I thought the stand out player was Mark Curry at full back for Kilbride. Had a super game. Hopefully Turlo calls him into county squad.
