Tyrone v Down

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Great second half , Sean Cavanagh holds his nerve big time , but boy oh boy that missed free and Johnson losing the ball on the sideline Down should be through , but most definetly should be kicking themselves .hard to know what to take from the game , very entertaining second half .

Very good second half, Down will be kicking themselves for doing everything in their power to blow the lead but again I don't know why people think that the reply is a forgone conclusion, it's not!

Sean Cavanagh is still an absolute class act.

Terrible first half but very exciting second half.

If Down were any bit smart at all they would've won.

The two fouls which led to Tyrone's equalising frees were absolutely stupid. No need at all. Pure stupid.

If you wanna win provincial honours and be playing football in August then you need to cut out that stupidity.

What a very entertaining game!.

Referees around the country will take note of the success of the black card and how it has opened up the game, and teams to go for it when the opportunity presents itself. Very sorry for Down, thought they had it, but they will take a lot of confidence from this game.

I am afraid to say that neither of these teams now have any prospects further into the summer. They have to play a replay, and then 3 games to win ulster before they even get into croke park. Far too big an ask.

Looking forward to the replay, and the donegal derry game next week will have a lot to live up to from this!

Entertaining second half down will be kicking themselves, free kick missed near end whoever wins next weekend will lose to Monaghan, even without mc manus seen nothing from Tyrone to say that the could win Ulster this year. Lots of gaps in tyrone defence down should of been further ahead of down in first half they let down back into game with the two goals. Tyrone to win next Saturday nd then lose to Monaghan get a run in the qualifers.

Heart in mouth stuff at the end there!
'Cynical' Down changed gears and nearly
pulled off the shock of the season!
But Sean the 'man' Cavanagh saves the
day for Tyrone. ;)
The questions now are:
Can Tyrone play that badly again?
+
Can Down play that well?

One thing we learned today is that Tyrone have no chance of winning Sam.

What game where you watching ?

For three quarters of the game, Tyrone where the better of the two teams.

It was only After Tyrones second goal that complacency seemed to set in, Or Down upped it.

The questions you should ask are

"Will Tyrone play as bad as they did in the last quarter again"

+

"Will Down play as well as they did in the last quarter again"

Simple fact of the matter is Tyrone where the better team for most of the game. Took a 7 point lead and took their foot off the gas

Down had nothing to lose and went for it.

Because of Downs stupidity in conceeding two frees in injury time, They didnt deserve to win.

And because of Tyrones mentality after their second goal, They didnt deserve to win either.

I dont think they will win sam, But i wouldnt say today proved they wont.

They where 7 points ahead.

Sure they had to save it in the end but they where the better team for the majority of the contest.

Neither side deserved to win as they both bottled it and did some stupid things when in the lead.

Tyrone will win the replay though in my opinion.

I still think they will be in the championship on the August Bank holiday.

Anything is possible in the championship.

Down are a very difficult team to beat in Newry and after today will have the belief that they are a match for Tyrone.
I think Tyrone looked very average today with some players looking like passengers.

Tyrone defence looked shambolic at times, for the second year in a row Down rue missed chances against a perceived better team however they have every chance in the replay in Newry, I'm not at all convinced by this Tyrone team yet anyway, look like an outfit that need fresh ideas

The one player that I felt stood out today and took the game to Tyrone was the Sub, Johnson he attached down the wing and did not waste one ball in that second half. very poor 1st have but one cracking second half, Tyrone were very poor but they relied on the same big guns to get them out of jail; O'Neill, McMahon and Gormley. I;m afraid neither of these two teams will frighten Monaghan. the only good thing is the game will bring them on a bit.
