Predictions for winner of NFL Division 1?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I hope your right ziggy but I don't know, we have 4 away games again this year, away to Dublin mayo Westmeath and Kildare. Home to Derry Tyrone and cork, there is no easy games in div 1 but we are Kerry and we'll do our best I'm sure and hopefully we can stay up.

Why do people talk down the league.....yet getting relegated is not good and getting promoted is seen as an adjective. Time to cut the snobbery. Winning division 1 of the league is a great achievement and winning is a good habit going into summer

yew_tree, it is not snobbery. It is just not as important as winning the AI. Counties like Kerry and ourselves have genuine hope of winning an All-Ireland almost every year! If that sounds like snobbery, I'm sorry, it's just the way it is.

Look, I'll take a league title anytime you like but there's no way I'd be disappointed if we didn't land that particular silverware, both as a player and a supporter.

Dublin should be targeting a league semi with 4 games at home (Kerry, Cork, Mayo & Kildare) and W'Mearth, Derry & Tyrone away they should be able to get the 8pts that should be enough to see them reach the Semi's an extra competitive game would stand to them ahead of the championship.

Derry should have put Tyrone away in the McKenna cup semi final, and I expect they will feel more confident now going into this game. I'm expecting this to be a cracking game. In saying that, Mickey Harte will have learned lessons from the McKenna cup meeting and will once again be aiming to win the National League.

Have a sneaky feeling Kerry might be well up for this game, and possibly a bit more than Dublin. Could be an upset in store for the home side in this game.

Would expect Cork to edge their game with Westmeath, although im not sure about this. Westmeath have been written off and are as good as relegated already in most peoples minds. This could put them in strong position to be underestimated and cause a major shock or two.

Mayo will be on a mission to win Division 1 this year, as James Horan has already made clear. They will be targetting this game in a big way, and I expect Mayo to win this game in a comfortable manner. Kildare will push them hard, but Mayo should edge this without too much of a sweat.

I'd have the same predictions as Brend. Reason for Kildare over Mayo is the fact they've had competitive games under their belt, and in awinning form combined with http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=208330. I think Mayo have tough games this year in the league and could struggle to make semis. Could have abit of a hangover over from last season and start slow. Hopefully they won't panic and try and build momentum for the main event. Think Kerry will be well up for Dublin game, but lacking depth with a lot of players missing. Tyrone Derry to be a close one, but I think Tyrone will edge it. Can't see Westmeath doing much this year but at the same time I don't really know ehere they are at.

As stated on another thread I think Kildare could fly this year under different leadership and should start the league well with a competitive game on under their belt yesterday standing to them.
Much as it pains me, having watched the recent McKenna Cup game I don't think Derry's finishing could be that bad again so unless Tyrone are ready to draft a wee bit more experience back into midfield and the backs the locals might just enjoy the game at Celtic Park more than me.
Westmeath will struggle at this level and I think Kerry might have to wait until some of their more established players get back before clocking up a few wins

So I home wins for me

Listening to weeshie on terrace talk this evening and he reckons Dublin will do back to back league and championships , hard to argue with the man.

Very difficult to achieve such a feat on the back of last years success. Other teams will study Dublin more, and note which tactics were most effective against them during 2013.

Ya not sure why that was taken down. It basically listed all of Mayo's injuries and players missing for the start of the championship!

Although they still named a strong enough team, http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=208546

A little lacking in scoring power though

DUBLIN VS KERRY.. DUBLIN(far to inexperienced Kerry side, dubs strength in depth in panel and scoring power to much)

TYRONE VS DERRY.. TYRONE(seem to be hungry in the mckenna cup, very fit and good underage players coming through. Dont know to much about Derry but they could be dark horses in division 1.)

CORK VS WESTMEATH.. CORK(In my opinion the two weakest sides in division 1. Cork have more scoring power and home advantage so i'll go for them)

KILDARE VS MAYO.. DRAW(To hard to call, Kildare looked fit and strong in the O'Byrne Cup but still struggle to score.Mayo have a few newcomers, still a good side on paper. It will come down to who wins the midfield battle. To close to call)
