Good call here by CLG. I am not surprised Val Andrews could not get on with him.

Residency and ethos?
What does ethos have to do with turning down a transfer request?

1175274 Residency and ethos?
What does ethos have to do with turning down a transfer request?

it's usually invoked when there is no legitimate reason for inaction, the church rely on it a lot.

They are pulling out all the stops on this one. I bet the Rules Advisory Committee has been busy.

Ethos that's a classic coming from the hierarchy.

If he's living in Kildare let him play, or is it a case of putting two fingers up to the past Cavan management set up and having a huge gripe/huff at not been selected.

IMO let him go as long as his residency is in order, don't know if he'd make the first 15, he has not the physical attributes most of Kildare squad currently possess.

The CCCC would need to get their own ethos in order in relaton to the disgraceful way that they have handled this transfer request irrespective of the merits of SJ's case.

Can someone fill me in on the FACTS here.
Is Seanie Johnston living and working in Kildare?
If he's living in Kildare, how long has he been there?
If he's been living there since before he left the Cavan team I don't see why the GAA are refusing him the transfer.
If he is just living there since he left the Cavan team it shouts of abuse of the rules and would open a real can of worms to let the transfer through and would tiptoe on the edge of breaching the parish and county ethos (ideals) of the GAA.

Well done CCCC. It certainly goes against the ethos of the GAA what he was trying to do. He was asking for this after sitting in the dugout at the Div 2 league final. The most of the young players on the Cavan Senior Panel of Ulster Medals in their pockets already. Jelly has nothing.

if the appeal to the DRA is turned down is there anything to stop Seanie strolling to the Four Courts and getting an Injunction - the refusal on spurious grounds such as ethos is denying him a natural right to play and to be free to do so in whatever county he choses. Surely this could be seen as a restriction of a persons freedom of movement etc

I think if it went that far it would well and truely open the floodgates. County teams would become almost unrecognisable with foreign faces if that happened.

Anyone got the figures on how many intercounty transfers there were this year and how many were refused?

If that happens you can kiss the intercounty gaa as we know it goodbye. Counties with ambitious managers like mcgeeney will have more options if they can't what they need in the county they are managing. At this stage I'd rather sj gets the move than go down this road.

Are managers, trainers etc required to give proof of address when they are claiming tax free mileage
