Dermot Earley Snr or Dermot Earley Jnr never won an All Ireland medal. They were both very good footballers.

I tend to enjoy the hard luck stories better than someone who has a bucket load of All Ireland medals."
If it's schmaltz you like, check out the NFL 'laochraí' on A Football Life, usually someone under a headstone at some point in those stories.

The program is not solelyabout All Ireland medal winners. There are a lot of talented footballers and hurlers who never won an All Ireland medal, or played in a final. They are a part of the GAA community, and gave as much to their county and the association as players from the more successful counties.
The players stories reflect their lives on an off the playing field.

Dermot Early, Dan Shanahan, Declan Browne, Glen Ryan, John Millane, Ciaran Carey, WJ Padden, Ken McGrath, Eamonn O Hara….just a few players who featured on Lochra Gael in the past who have zero all Irelands and so what?

Winning an Ireland is the ultimate achievement but that does not discredit or lessen the many other great players down the years who have not won the ultimate prize.

Never giving up, commitment and dedication are all worthy attributes.

Larry who. Did he even win an Ulster medal.
Players selected for the show are household names in Ireland and not just a specific county.

True, I enjoyed the on on Ciaran Duff, also the one on Kevin Cassidy.

Read Duff's life story a few years back and have to say he's a role model to any family. Maybe different on the field but what happens on the field should stay on the field. A gent.

I like Kevin. Thought he was treated a bit badly but he has never made an issue out of it. Nor excuses for himself. Good pundit too on TG4, and his one really gave insight into importance of football and the club in Gaoth Dobhair.

Dermot Snr was a great player. His brother Paul was a good player.

The Shane Curran episode was brilliant. Never knew about the Connacht minor final incident where he ran in and scored the penalty while another Roscommon player had put down the ball.

Most amazing thing I've ever seen on a Gaa pitch.
It's up on YouTube for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Yes Larry Who did win an Ulster medal. No need to be so bitter just cos he roasted your boys, whoever they are, on multiple occasions

Larry Mullan from U2 or Larry Hagman from Dallas are two Larries with a better chance of being on Laochra Gael than Larry Reilly.

Despite Larry being a legend, I clearly posted tongue in cheek. Surprised that anyone would get wound up about it though. A better footballer than Tom Parsons and that's for sure but there'll always be begrudgers.

PS I don't begrudge Tom Parsons his episode

Sorry all, one_off has the hump with me over something from last week on the non-gaa forum. Wasn't expecting them to bring it up here too.
