I didnt watch it, but I have seen reports that it was a good program again this week. But what how in gods name are they making one of these programs about a lad who won SFA. Like for example the rock, gerry macinerny, colin lynch, the o'connor twins, lads who have all won multiple all irealnds, all stars the lot... The Joe canning program a few weeks ago crescendoed with him winning in 2017, it all led up to it... What was Parsons one leading up to?? I might sound harsh but its not about an under 12 tournament where everyone gets a game.... its about winning All Irelands.

Come back to us when you go through what happened him in 2018 and see how you get on. What a cheap comment.

Are you saying you have to win All-Irelands to be described as a "Laoch"?

That's a woeful post. Laochra means heroes. Given how Tom Parsons played and given his courage in the face of a truly dreadful injury he deserves to be seen as a laoch and fully deserves to be featured on Laochra Gael.

to say that is an insult to tom parsons and all the players who went through horrendous injury to play for their county . but the fact that you would not appreciate that shows that like most on this you know nothing about love of county or love of the gaa. tom parsons is to be lauded for what he went through not insulted

Is it though? Personally, I'd rather watch a good story instead of hearing somebody off the factory conveyor belt in the traditional county telling us the same story we've heard enough before. The big drama of the show usually being how (player) lost one of 5 all Irelands he was in and it was a 'difficult time' for him, it gets a bit repetitive after a while. If there are better life stories to hear from top players who happened to be from non traditional counties, I'd rather watch that than another bland trophy count from the usual suspects.

It's fair to say "Laochra Gael" was never intended to celebrate the "Greats" of div.3 or div. 4, self explanatory.

Maybe watch it before commenting? You mentioned Colin Lynch (someone I hugely admired). He has ONE more All-Ireland medal than Tom Parsons.

The most interesting ones have been those with a good life story. Ciaran Duff was a hate figure for many but his one was genuinely moving regarding his daughter and the support he received from former "enemies" on the field.

Its also self explanatory that not every top player was privileged enough to be born in a traditional AI winning county which obviously plays a major role in the success a player might have.

In a round about way we are saying the same thing, so like yourselves we have / had some great players in both codes that through no fault of their own have sort of faded in history, if they had as you implied been born into a more traditionally successful county they most certainly have been part of the Laochra Gael discussions,
Continued success in both codes.

I wouldn't agree with this at all. Some of the greatest players to play the game have never won an All-Ireland.
One point I will say though on the Parsons choice, is that his playing career for me wouldn't be considered at the level needed for Laochra Gael.
From that great Mayo team, I don't think I'd even have him in top 7 or 8 players to have played for that group. He wasn't even a regular starter for a number of years.
In terms of a story though, he has a bit more to it. He seemed to become more acknowledged after the bad injury and of course there's the GPA role which adds to the profile.

Tom Parsons was a decent county player at best but thats it. The show was one of the poorest to date. I wonder if he wasnt head of the GPA would the show be made.

I didnt mean to disrespect the man. Hes been a valuable addition to the GPA and seems like a very decent chap. My sentiments were meant to be just about winners versus non-winners that is all. All Ireland winners that is before someone comes back on that comment too.

One All Ireland is enough. One Celtic Cross is the ambition of so so many.

John Galvin never won an All Ireland or even a Munster, but there are lads with All Ireland Medals who would not be fit to even lace his boots. Packy McArty, Frank McGuigan, Declan Brown of Tipp and Mattie Forde are also names that come to mind and of course men like Ger Loughnane, and Gary Kirby.

I really enjoyed the programme last night, Tom Parsons was a very good footballers who came back from a horrific injury and is a great role model for young footballers. I tend to enjoy the hard luck stories better than someone who has a bucket load of All Ireland medals.
