Not sure. Longford had a good team then. Jimmy Hanniffy, Jackie Devine, Flynn?, were some players I remember.

They certainly did, beating Galway in the '66 League final and winning Leinster in '68.

Brendan Barden was a very good defender on that team. Don't know if he's related to Paul.

Paul Barden played for Longford from late 90s I'd say to 2014/15 or thereabouts. An excellent footballer. Had the pleasure of seeing him live on a couple of occasions.

Brendan Barden of the 1960s team was Pau's uncle. That was a great day in Pearse in 2006. One of the hottest match days i remember. Town and park were jammed and mighty crack. I remember it well Dublin scraped by by two points. Think the score was 1_10 to 12points or something like that. Dublin did nt play an away game again in the championship for over 10 years after that.

Through no fault of Dublin! Leinster Council vote with no dissenters. I even remember one chap from a certain county who voted to have all Dublin matches in CP and then made a big deal a year or two later giving out about his own county losing a home game! Mad crowds back then of course. Capacity attendance that year as far as I can recall for the Leinster final against Offaly. A sell out the same year for league game against Tyrone. Paul Barden had to be one of the best if not the best Longford player of his generation. He was on teams that took down Kerry in the, Mayo and Derry (twice) in championship, and ran both Dublin & Kerry Close in championship. I spoke to inter County players who dreaded the sight of him coming towards him. He had a burst of speed and worse still for a defender he could carry the ball at a ferocious speed. He could score with both feet from left or right. What brilliant service he gave Longford. In a way I'm glad he had his day back when naturally talented players could shine and when needs be go on that solo run and get that score winning score. Sadly in today's game his prowness would not be encouraged, Imagine if he was dispossessed on a solo run the seats men would go berserk. Barney was correct. Dublin beat Offaly in Leinster football final 2006. The final had a huge attendance. I was there.

Peak Celtic Tiger. Crowds were crazy. I think Donegal and Armagh sold out an Ulster final in Croke Park around that time too? Same year if I'm not mistaken. The Dublin thing was a bit like a cargo cult. Crowds and expectation built all the time up to 2011 and then fell off after that! I suppose it's only natural once success comes. Barney is correct about 2006 SFC Final. I should have mentioned that Longford defeated Laois in 1968 to win their first Leinster title.
