Replying To Saynothing:  "Choked big time, not near good enough , ref tried his best for them. Saxton as usual couldn't take his beating pointing and crying at opposing players after the final whistle. Up to now winning matches and playing stupid Zombie song reminded me of the way the English go on . Back down to earth with a bump. Keep your rugby and keep your Zombie song."
They played liked zombies at times too, with Ireland gone out of it now I have every team left in it but England to support, ABE, anybody but England.
Not that I'll watch much of it anyway.

If Stephen Kenny had been from the North like Martin O'Neill or from outside the island he would have been berated by now by the Southern media. He's failed abysmally but had the easiest of rides from the press. Nice enough fella but totally off the pace and out of his depth.

I don't think it's Stephen Kenny's fault entirely, the players he has now are just not good enough, different class of player now compared to what Ireland managers had before.
Saying that no doubt he's on his way out of the job, I'm sure he's earned well out of it though and good luck to him, seems a very genuine fella.

Kenny got a very easy ride from most quarters for sure. I think it's more to do with his League of Ireland background though, rather than where he's from. Steve Staunton isn't from the North or abroad, but he was ridiculed by the media. His record was very poor, but Kenny's has actually been worse.

One thing you can do to amuse yourself watching Kenny's sides is get the phone, and check where these lads are playing. I did the midfield the other night, and came up with Preston, Southampton, Burnley and Bristol City. The penny drops, as to why you're underwhelmed with 'the performance'.

When Man City, Real Madrid, Liverpool and even United start to sign Irish squad players, we'll know the tide is turning, and results could conceivably improve then for Steve Kenny.

Well, technically from the South alright, albeit from Drogheda and a mere 7k from the border. Like Donegal, Dundalk (dubbed El Paso by the Irish media) would be alien territory for much of the Dublin-based commentariat. I recall an amount of sniggering about his accent too.

They played Ireland's Call yesterday, I turned off until it finished. The Zombie song is another dustbin filler. Where did that come from?

Yes - bit of nerves. Still a serious effort. Sexton lost the plot a bit, but given my track record of offering "advice" to referees from the stands, I'll certainly not be condemning him for that.

Kenny is a genuine chap and that always goes a long way. Not his fault he is blessed with such a poor selection of all sorts. No one else wanted the job.

Kenny is, and has been, out of his depth for his time in charge of Ireland. Not enough experience before he got the job. But he tried, in vain, to get the senior team playing more constructive football. O'Neill was content to play safety first and grind out results which only got him so far. Whoever the next manager is needs to play a bit more pragmatic football than Kenny but hopefully not look to go one nil up and sit back for the rest of the game.

Why be so petty. Why be so concerned with something totally irrelevant hat you've to turn it off until its over. It has no relevance on any game like any anthem

Zombie surely you know band it comes from

Nothing petty about turning off TV for a non Anthem. Don't start on Zombie, a song bowing to the British. Britain, USA and Israel can do no wrong in some people's eyes.

Replying To TheFlaker:  "Ireland have beaten the top sides before in group stages. Why do people look for excuses everywhere, all the time. They were tipped to win by every pundit across the board because of what they did pre WC and pre quarter final. They had to get it done and they didn't perform for first 20 and played a quarter of the game with an extra man and didn't take advantage of it. I have been a defender of our rugby teams for many years on here but spare me the hard luck stories."
No on the day we were not good enough but still could have won it. Luck had nothing to do with it.

Zombie - much as I have great admiration for the late Dolores - is hardly a work of literature. Like something a 10 year old would write. I wouldn't read too much into it. Taken out of context as you say, just indeed as is the 'Up the Ra' thing which is historical artefact of an organisation that gave up years ago without achieving its objective.

Might not have achieved it's objective by military means but if you look at it the political wing is poised to take power on both sides of the border, not many would have predicted that after the ceasefire in '94.
We wouldn't have had the freedom we enjoy in the 26 counties this last 100 years without their kind either.
It would have been better if no blood had ever been shed in the cause of freedom but that's the way it the world over, Mandela came from a physical force organisation in the cause of freedom for South Africa, Gandhi is the only one that springs to mind that done it by peaceful means but even he was inspired by the Irish revolution in 1916.

Even if - dia linn - the Shinners take power in both parts of a partitioned Ireland, it will still be partitioned. Given their policies, it will also be nothing like what Pearse and most of the volunteers of Provos died for,

Did Gandhi really gain independence through peaceful means though?

He stated himself that his aim was not to use violence himself but that he would fully support the use of violence in pursuit of a just cause, where no alternative existed.

That would likely be true of many military leaders and leaders of many freedom fighting organisations.
