Replying To MayoDan:  "Unlike Roscommon, this is not a joint management team. McStay is the number 1.

Rochford did manage Mayo but he spent the last 4 years as a number 2 in Donegal. Buckley has never been a manager, always a coach. Liam McHale has always been a coach with McStay, why would there be an issue this time? Don't know much about Mulligan, but I can't see him being a big disrupting influence.

Oisín McConville is a bigger personality than anyone on McStay's team. I could definitely see him walking from a management mid season if things weren't being done his way. Burke was the number 2 under Horan so would want a significant input. Gilvarry managed Mayo to a minor all Ireland and been over Ballina and Ballintubber in recent years. No experience of being a selector. Keith Higgins has no experience whatsoever aside from playing.

Just don't see what the big issue is with McStay's backroom team."
It was McStays management really when first appointed in the autumn of 2015. He asked Fergal in as he wanted a Roscommon voice with past experience along side with him. Rochford is now the assistant manager looks to be given a simliar role and brought in for his past experience.

Will be interesting to see how McStay goes for us. I really hope it works out but the harsh reality is like those before him, if an all Ireland is not delivered then it will be deemed failure.

He will have more resources and a bigger player pool available to him than he had over in Roscommon.

So it's Westport v Castlebar and Ballina v Ballintubber in the senior county semifinals. Westport made heavy weather of it against a durable Garrymore and just about deserved it. Castlebar did just enough against Knockmore but I think Knockmore are better than Garrymore so give a tentative vote to Castlebar. Ballina cruised through against Claremorris as they did previously against Aghamore and would probably have wanted more of a challenge but it is what it is and they are a serious outfit with scorers all over the place. However they now meet a battle hardened Ballintubber who have a firing Cillian back and Brian Walsh is gathering momentum. I expect Jason Gibbons to appeal and win his red card. There was no malice or intent and a yellow would have been harsh. Even with Gibbons I think Ballintubber will come up short because Ballina just look so strong and balanced. They create umpteen goal chances and have regular scorers in Irwin, McStay, Regan and Thornton and a strong bench which may prove too much.

I've seen a lot of breaffy in last 3/4 years, are they ever going to win a county championship??they seem to get to latter stages and then just can't get over the line.,balina look like the team to beat, but wouldn't totally right off any team with the o Connors..

Oisin Mullin off on his travels, best of luck to him and hope it all goes well for him.

huge loss to Mayo, and if Keegan retires then they are in a bit of bother to fill those positions in the full back line.

Would have been great to have seen Mullin and Keegan in the half back line with Paddy Durcan, I think a half back line with them three would have been unreal. The way its goin now, Durcan could be asked to do man marking jobs that Mullin or Keegan were doing.

Mullin a huge loss alright as would Keegan be but as with the likes of Boyle and Higgins the last few years other lads will step up (maybe Callinan or McHugh from last years 20s). Look forward to seeing the progression of these players

And yesterday qualified for the All-Ireland final! I hope all Mayo GAA people get behind them now. Great article on them in Saturday's Examiner:

I think Tooreen would have to but if someone else wins Mayo they wouldn't.

A fantastic effort from Tooreen on Saturday. Came up just short against a senior club from Limerick. Missed 4/5 scoreable frees during the course of the game which proved costly.

Tooreen where really unlucky best team for 55 minutes but could never get far enough ahead. Monaleen stayed in there and at the end got the scores they needed last one from sideline was a great score and a worthy winner.
Tooreen though should be proud of there efforts and hopefully will be back again next year with a better result this time.

Where in Mayo are Tooreen club, and how many hurling clubs are in the county? Mayo are better known as a football county, but I recall a Joe Henry hurling with Mayo. Was he from Tooreen?

Tooreen were indeed unlucky. Still a great display and from a young team at that. Not far away from success. Hopefully a few other areas in Mayo will take an interest in the game as both Tooreen and Ballyhaunis are great ambassadors for hurling.

A super team. Should be extremely proud of themselves. Lets hope they inspire a few young lads in Mayo to pick up the hurl. The Bolands are as good of hurlers as you'd find in any county, and plenty more with them.

They will hurt from that loss though, better team for 50 mins but you could sense it slipping away. Few silly frees too, dont know was it just the pressure or tired bodies or what, but I really wanted to see them get over the line.

Would love to see Fergal Boland hurl with Mayo if he isnt with the footballers. McStay's loss.

McStay dropped him. Gave him some advice on what he needs to improve to get back in.

Yes he is. Played in a challenge game last sat v Westmeath I'm told. The Mayo team that played Galway in the air dome later that evening was "another" mayo selection. Either way challenges/FBD can be taken with a large grain of salt.
