Replying To centrefield99:  "Anybody have the attendances from the Galway vs Wexford game or Limerick vs Cork game?"
I heard 10,200 mentioned for Galway v Wexford.
I read somewhere "around 40k" at Cork/Limerick.

Attendances are becoming a state secret with GAA hierarchy . Their so busy trying to get the championship out of the way they don't have time to be releasing attendance figures .

The way in which the championships are being treated is scandalous.

All the predictions of those who opposed the shortened season, the Sky deal, the rearranging the calendar to suit concerts and whoever else gets the state to put the screws on - some soccer thing next - are being proven to have been correct.

It is simply not working. They will have to rejig it for next year, championship should start in May, it's a given.

The last Mayo v Galway championship game in MacHale Park played in early May also a quarter final had 4892 more in attendance.

Covid or the family expense to attend matches nowadays for this decrease I'd wonder.

That game was In 2018. Galway had won 6 out of 7 league games, had drawn the other and had been narrowly beaten by Dublin in the league final. I'd imagine there were more Galway fans present that day as expectations were that Galway were in with a real chance of winning. Likewise, Mayo fans thought their team would be given a right rattle so probably took more of an an interest aswell.

Theres so many matchs on in such quick succession people dont have a chance to fund them all.

From last Saturday to next Saturday Limerick Senior Hurlers, Senior Footballers, Under 20 Hurlers, Minor Hurlers & Minor Footballers all play Championship fixtures, some people might like to go to 3 or 4 or even 5 of these fixtures , its not possible financially or physically in the new Crammed Season World.
PS Cost of living is also tightening peoples disposable income .

27,000 at the Limerick game doesn't seem accurate, the place holds 44,000. I don't think you would get another 17,000 in there. It looked more like 35,000.

I know plenty who didn't travel on Sunday. Some of which would always go to Mayo games.

Corrigan Park was able to hold 4000 for Saturday's game. It wasn't a sell out. Somewhere between 3000-3300 I'd guess.

I'd add on to my previous statement saying if the GAA is intent on this split season course, reverse it. Have the leagues, let the players go back to their clubs and have the county championships finished in July...then begin the inter county championship finishing in Sep/Oct

So many games on tv makes it easy not to go to games. I've a season ticket for Galway hurling but I wasn't going to go to the turkey shoot in Pearse Stadium when there was the prospect of 2 good matches on tv ....and I'm one of the more "active supporter" types! Even when a close competitive game is likely, tv creams off a fair chunk off attendances. I know there was an initial post Covid bounce to attendances but I think that's levelled off now -- people have generally got used to watching events passively and remotely. Much discussion about games on social media often surrounds the question "Is it on tv?" and if it's not, then it's loud complaints about it not being televised , especially if it's not on RTE!

Poolsturgeon a huge offput for people is the ticket situation..no stand tickets available for lim/ Waterford two weeks before match, all sold out..however amazingly loads came on sale Thursday and friday..people at that stage had given up on getting them.another serious difficulty are the times we live in where everything has gone up in price, people now have to watch and account for every penny spent..

Hard to find Leinster attendances. They look small so far. 14k for Galway Kilkenny. Given it was played in Galway with the Henry Cody subplot this is very small. When you consider Cork and Clare brought 20k to Thurles. That with the Cork bandwagon greatly reduced after recent defeats too.

Only 10k at Wexford Galway, less at Wexford Dublin. Wexford going well have a massive following, very small crowds for 2 home championship games there.

Leinster so far -
Wexford Galway 10,200
Galway Kilkenny 14,034

Munster so far

Waterford Tipp 10,982
Cork Limerick 40,000 (estimate wikipedia)

Limerick Waterford 27,488
Tipp Clare 17,260

Cork Clare 20,834

dahayeser they are not valid comparisons. Kilkenny don't travel to away games until finals and certainly not 150km to one in a part of the country which is notorious to get to/from.
Wexford Galway had more than 10k at it, both the stand and openside were full.
I wonder if GAA are playing down attendances or think people don't pay attention so just saying whatever.
I made this point before that every county has 10k of a core support, and after that the increased crowd is to do with how well the team is doing. Every county has this, mine, yours, Limerick, Waterford, every one of them.
I was talking to a man at training last night who said he hadn't been to any Wexford match this year yet as Ed Sheeran nearly broke him!!!
But last weekend there were 4 different Wexford matches between football and hurling minor, U20 and senior. 2 v Laois in O'Moore Park, 2 v Dublin in Wexford Park. Perfect for 2 double headers but some genius didn't think so.
