Rushing to play it on a Saturday in February with a heap of other things on was not a great idea . It always attracted a lot of neutrals on st Patrick's day and was a traditional day out for many . Equally tv viewing numbers were way lower than normal with all that was on tv Saturday.

needed to be played far sooner than paddys day though as it was ridiculous to have provincial finals played in November/early december and then only 3 games between then and paddys day

Six Nations draws huge tv numbers and high profile intercounty on TV yesterday too.

Heard a suggestion yesterday that the new St Brigid's day Bank Holiday ( 1st Monday of February) should become the new club finals day, I wouldn't mind that idea myself.

It was a big crowd alright but the uncovered stand had very few turnstiles open and a lot of people came in the last 20 mins and there was large ques. The Limerick county board should realise that Limerick/Cork in 2 weeks time will have 15-20,000 at it and have enough turnstiles open.

Yea the Limerick Cork match will draw a bigger crowd on a Sunday afternoon as well. Beware away going into the Mackey Stand that day as there was ridiculously loud speakers blaring music last saturday night in Mackey stand, couldnt hear yourself think before the game or at half time wouldn't be surprised if there's a few deafness claims as a result.

Is the Gaelic grounds the only venue in the country with these problems??the majority of times people seem to go there, always seems there are problems with queues..whether it's getting in the gate, trying to get a programme or trying to get up the steps to get a seat..might be me but never seems to be enough entry gates open..also can some one explain why the terrace behind the goals are closed for matches??why have the gaa also made the decision that you can no longer buy a ticket on your way to ground with good old fashioned cash??just in case people say I'm bashing, not intended..Gaa has always been my first love and still is..I'd like to hear what others think??

Im guessing having no cash firstly cuts out all the work counting it and going to the bank / security etc . Secondly was their potential for temptation/fraud with so much cash , often it looked like 15000 there but the official attendance could be 11,000?. There definitely seems to be an issue at any game with a decent crowd with massive queues and too few stiles open as many arrive in the last half hour .

With the sort of fare been offered in football lately it wouldn't take a lot of time to count the cash because nobody will turn up…. Hurling is much more entertaining

So much for all the delegates who were gulled into thinking that telescoping the GAA year was going to benefit the clubs!

Junior and intermediates on Stephen's Day?

All of the All Ireland finals, senior, Intermediate and junior to be played early January 2023. All Ireland semi finals to be played December 10th/11th of this year.

Like I said. Highlight of club year won't interfere with diversity and the till anyway.

Harry Hindsight is a great fella but maybe for 1 weekend would it have been better to play the full round of national hurling league games on Saturday and the club finals on Sunday.

Good point. The year's barely begun and already we have had the county champions of some counties in the three grades playing finals on the same day indeed at the same time as the county seniors.

And the geniuses who organised this would have you believe that all this ramming of games into a few months of the year and at a time pitches are at their worst is supposed to be for the benefit of GAA players and supporters.

I beg to differ. It would appear that concert organisers and soccer spivs and ministers looking to use Croke Park for a spot of virtue signalling have first call these days.

They might as well have got rid of September when they were at it, it's a nothing of a month without the All Ireland finals.

That wouldn't be a bad idea - much better than trying to compete with a resurgent league calendar. There could also be an opportunity to have it just before Christmas - marketed right that could be a massive occasion. I'd certainly prefer to go to that than a panto!

A big bonus of the traditional St Patrick's day slot was the amount of tourists in Dublin for St Patrick's day all looking to experience some Irish culture. The games in Croker Park were an obvious draw. I'd suggest a charity shield type completion between the pervious years League and All Ireland champions in football and hurling. It could possibly double up as a league match so no need to open up to a fixtures review task force. Net gate receipts to go to charity - with a trophy presented to both football and hurling winners on the day. It would be a great new tradition to be proud of!
