Replying To dahayeser:  "Tipp Cork 27,131 (includes KK v LK U20 final)
Clare Waterford 16,144

Kilkenny Wexford 13,565
Galway Dublin 10,583

Very surprised Kilkenny Wexford wouldn't fill Nowlan Park. Do or die for Wexford also the game only on Sky. I'd say the u20 final crown suffered from the compressed schedule. At the right time of the year that could bring 20k on it's own. Mostly Cork fans making up the crowd in Thurles yesterday."
There is no way there was only 13k at Kilkenny Wexford. They must not have counted children. If anybody was absent, it was Kilkenny supporters as Wexford, to their credit, travelled in large numbers. Kilkenny are probably along with Waterford and Dublin the worst supported hurling county.

Having been in Thurles yesterday I would say the 27000 was broken down something like 16,000 Cork, 7,000 Limerick, 2500 Kilkenny, 1500 Tipperary, it was embarrassing for Tipperary the lack of Support in their home pitch for a Munster championship fixture.

13k LOL.
I doubt it very much. That stand in Kilkenny must hold 15k and it was packed.

Dublin championship games in Parnell are always sold out to county pass and season tickets. Often packed too for big league games. Games in CP always got 20k at least even as bottom of the bill.

Nowhere near the same as football obviously. Waterford also a small ground and usually packed anytime they get home championship or big league. Kilkenny like Dub footballers are suffering law of diminishing returns! Big Wexford crowd and perhaps some overconfidence on locals part.

Still, almost full for that game,

Hurling attendance figures are largely holding up although the Leinster final attendance was pathetic…. Football for the most part is on a rapid downwards tri
curve….

Compare the spectacle of the Munster hurling final yesterday to the Ulster football final last week. The only people who could have possibly found the latter entertaining are coaches who are a minority among Gaelic football fans. Spectators need excitement and action. Martin Breheny is correct, football has become a play thing for coaches who are only interested in a game of chess.

What was the Leinster final attendance? It should never have been played at 7pm on a Saturday night.

It eventually came out. Just over 31,000. Terrible decision to have it on Saturday night.

We're back to Croker again this Saturday for a double header with Clare and Roscommon. Surely no need to be back in a 1/3 full Croke Park again so soon? Is Ed Sheeran playing is Tullamore and Galway?

I agree with you on the Cooke Park issue. Funny enough Galway KK Leinster finals over the last 10 yrs rarely have got over 35k and usually the same attendance as Sat night. I thought there would only be 20k at it with that time of 7pm. In fact the only final I recall getting a really big crowd was Galway Wex in 2017 when 60k ish were at it and that was because we were at our peak and Wex had a big support. Mind boggling though having CP Sat eve as a regular fixture and this Sat will be lucky to get 20k for the football double header.

For sure it's a bit of a trek for the fans, and the place will be nearly empty with no atmosphere at all, but playing in Croke park is special.

Yes indeed. Kildare and Mayo should be playing a double header with the minors of both teams in Tullamore on Sunday afternoon, not a fecking 6pm throw in on Saturday and expected to make another trek on Sunday.

I know it's not an option, but if the Leinster final had been played on a Sunday afternoon in the Semple Stadium, there would have been over 40k at it, and atmosphere would have been great.

31,000 is a joke
no way was there 31k there
when issuing numbers they put in all premium and boxes as full as they are paid for
it was the worst atmosphere ever.
If the game was played in Tullamore at 5pm you would have had a full house and great atmosphere.
Also would have some economic benefit to a small town just like the match on Sunday had in Thurles.
The obsession of playing matches in Croke Park needs to be revisited

It reminded me of a Wexford Kilkenny match in the mid noughties when I first brought my eldest to a match there. 20k, and 16k of them Wexford people lambs to the slaughter whose attitude was "just don't get hammered"!

Anybody aware of the official attendance in Croke Park for the Round 2 Qualifiers. Looked like on tele it didn't break 20,000.

31,000, a massaged figure if there was ever one.
Figures for attendances not given automatically over the tannoy anymore either, remember they scan all tickets so information is collated immediately, so numbers are known on the day. Smoke & mirrors here, producing a figure days later as they don't want the real figure known.

We've often heard of this mythical American tourist who comes over for a visit and is blown away by how great our games are.
I'd say if he took one look at the amount of empty seats there yesterday his first instinct would have been to smirk.
Compare Crokers atmosphere yesterday with the Aviva avd there'd have only been one winner.

But sure the players like playing there so.....
