Please name any player who should be on county panel but hasn't been.

There will always be a few players to drop off either by themselves or who aren't picked again, and likewise a few players to bring in, every year. To think that a county team stays the same each year isn't logical. So with that I mind, I do think that you're only taking a couple of standout players from this year who would add to the panel. I'm going with 3 older lads in Denis Corroon, Shane Dempsey, Peter Foy as experienced ex intercounty players, Niall Mitchell and David Whelan as another 2 who are experienced but never really had intercounty opportunities in quite a while and two younger lads in Jack Geoghegan and Joe Moran. That's probably more than enough and that will add to the squad. Baring in mind that there will be 3/4 who won't return to the county set up this year by choice or by selection.

Interesting that you say this Edman, I was thinking the very same about Dempsey and Corroon. Corroon stood out in every game I saw and Dempsey was flying all year, both certainly have the quality to play for Westmeath. Foy would go back to Longford if he was to return to the county set up I would imagine, but he would be a huge addition.
I think young Whittaker from Tubberclair has shown well this year and should also be involved. I also agree about Moran and Geoghegan being included in 2023.

Of course Corroon has the quality. He was there for about 10 years. But he retired from inter county. He would have been there this year if he'd wanted to be.

How did John Corbally come to be playing Junior 2 football ? He was an inter county prospect a few years ago.
Had he been injured or away or something ?

Looked like he has been out of the game a while. Was on last county minor team that played in Croke Park?

The winner of Ardee St Mary's (Louth) VS Colmcilles (Longford).

The game will be in a Westmeath Venue. The Downs can play it at home in the Downs if they want to as it is classed a county standard ground. But Id say they will play it in the Park

It will be played the weekend of the 5/6 November.

Shandonagh deserving winners of the intermediate replay yesterday against Tubberclair. Always looked in control from the outset and even when down to 14 men in last quarter looked comfortable. Few potential county panellists on show, Matthew Whittaker, Eoghan McCabe from Tubberclair with the Traynor brothers Adam and Ben impressive for Shandonagh along with Killian at wing back, Tommy Carr's son another wing back and Dan Scahill, a pacy defender. Alan Hickey was also excellent but obviously in the veteran stage, he must be 43-44. Clever in everything he did. Shandonagh are a decent side, could go well in Leinster

Bit harsh on Alan Hickey, you've aged him 4 or 5 years there :). He was on the minor team that won Leinster in 2000, and I think that was his first year minor.

Shandonaghs experience showed through in the end but you couldn't fault Tubberclaires year. It probably came a year too soon for them. They were probably the most consistent team in intermediate and to get to a final from Section B was a great achievement. If you look at Shandonagh, before yesterday their wins were very tight getting over teams but it showed their experience that they could get over those tight games.

Killucan and Shandonagh both had successful years, if their managers wish to continue they will be reappointed.

Despite being Intermediate Champions I wouldn't say Shandonagh has anyone who would be good enough for Westmeath. They seem to have a good bunch who work hard for each other but no individual brilliance.

You clearly didn't watch any of their matches. Daniel Scahill is a tremendous footballer, played superbly at centre back at just 19, very pacy with great skills, he's unquestionably good enough, the Scahill name likely to feature prominently on Westmeath teams in the future, Adam Treanor already on Westmeath panel and a good prospect, Gareth Carr, Brendan Killian also worthy of inclusion as would Aaron Craig but his hurling is priority.

Sure why dont we just put them all on the westmeath panel?

Young Scahill a decent prospect and will play county U20 again in 2023 so should progress along nicely. I believe he has younger brothers coming along as good if not better ! I am a believer in not rushing these lads and playing withing their age grade if U20 etc.

I see U19 finals on this weekend which might throw up a few future stars also:
Div 1: Kinnegad v Caulry
Div 2: Tyrrellspass v The Downs
Div 3: St Joseph's v St. Michael's (amalgamation of who ?)

What vintage is Paddy Holloway ? Always admired him as footballer for both club and county but didn't see much of him this year. Shane Dempsey as already mentioned will surely be hearing from Dessie.
Justin Barrett and Eoin Mulvihill impressed me for Garrycastle over the last few seasons - think they have been involved at county level before ?

Think St Michael's is CFCW and Ballycomoyle
