Replying To anotheralias:  "There was some suggestions on the Mayo GAA blog that Mayo have a younger age profile than Galway ( and implied in that is that they will be getting better relative to us).
This prompted me do a bit of research.
Taking the starting Mayo 15 v Donegal ( the last serious game for Mayo) and our starting 15 v Kerry.
Taking ages (as best I could ) from internet. The averages are very similar 25.26 and 25.33.
There was a bit of a difference in the standard deviation ( 3.47 versus 3.97) which would suggest that Mayo have more players closer to the prime age of 25 than Galway have , But the bottom line is that there really is no significant difference in age profile.
Sometimes its nice to deal with facts rather than sweeping statements that might suit a particular narrative."
looking at standard deviation, could you predict the score on Sunday based on your statistical analysis?

The guy that runs it deserve credit for that but he's just ordinary supporter who seems to have lost the run of himself and somewhat believes he's a voice of all Mayo supporters now and has worked his way onto the Mayo news podcast which includes asking national journalist questions. he also has family members involved now also."
He's a dose and a half.
I had the misfortune of sitting in front of him at the Connacht final in 2021 in Croker.

Personally I have no interest in anything anyone from Mayo does, and I don't think any other self-respecting Galway person should either.

He's hard to listen to. His 'moderation' on the blog is comical. Seems to want to be the loudest voice in the room even if he hasn't much worth listening to.

I wish. As they say in the financial adverts..."Past performance is no guarantee of future results"

Very interesting game at the weekend. I hope Maher starts again. Was very impressed with him last week. He always seems to break the line and could be a great foil for McDaid in the medium term.

Is McDaid injured or is it just a niggle/rested?

Cooke is a good addition although I agree with the posters who think he turns back a bit too often. Definitely more in him.

I expect Conroy to start as he has had a very good league.

It is great to have some new options around the middle and that is not even counting James McL who hasn't got a run yet this year. Unlikely you would start all of Conroy/Maher/Mcdaid/Cooke at the same time but any of them coming off the bench in the second half of a game would give a team a great boost.

Very impressed with Maher since last season's club championship. McDaid could go to 7, played in that position at u21.

Any update on Mulcahy, he had started well until he picked up the injury?

I would not expect many changes for Sunday Maybe Finnerty for tommo ,, think he will leave comer and Jack Glynn in reserve and Mcdaid if he fit

Subs / Finishers will be critical for Galway on Sunday as Mayo are fully Championship fit now and will finish the game big, full of beans and hoping for a Galway last 15 min blow out! We're probably 2-3 weeks behind them on the stamina / fitness front, given our cship calendar, and more with the injured guys obviously.

Yes, Maher has really worked on his game - uses size to get on goal side of defender, his finishing is reminiscent of the great Brian Mullins (Rip)...

McDaid is a different player in midfield - never really did it as half-back and was prone to picking up cards.

The infusion of u-20's AI winning players has been phenomenal and a game changer. No more need for Shane to go chasing possession - he can work closer to goal.

I feel CP will suit us more - esp. our forwards.
Has to be Galway by 5 points imo...

I'd say he was given a rest then. I thought he had been named on the bench initially but you don't go from 1 to 3 in a week. Gleeson is probably still no 1

I'd prefer Power but I think Gleeson has improved somewhat under high ball and will continue to I just think that Powers kickouts are way superior.

Word has it that Mulcahy has had that injury during a large part of the club championship, but finally had it looked after a couple of League games.reported to be in a cast.

Padraic Joyce is quoted on the backdoor gaa podcast and in the Connacht tribune as saying that Gleeson was given a break, he said he's the number 1 goalie and they wanted to get game time into power. Sounded cut and dried, Gleeson is number 1.
Till he said that Power gave them a headache for selection this Sunday. Either a token stock line that you throw out, or they will consider Power.

Agreed on McDaid, absolutely crazy to even question moving him back to wing back.

McDaid always looked a special talent who didn't look at ease in defence, in fairness he was one of the plus points along with Cooke & Daly to come out of the game against Mayo in Limerick in 2019. Moving him into midfield has transformed him into a player who could win multiple all stars.

No mention of what injury he's got but it was very obvious during the league he wasn't 100% fit, just hope he's back for the championship open, he'll have 7 weeks off by then.

Worth remembering too he was a sub this time last year and then ended the year nominated for POTY.
I expect 1 or 2 to do something similar this year.
There are going to be some fairly big names not making the 26 when all are available

If Gleeson gets the nod for the final I will not be happy. Our whole team last Sunday looked far more relaxed with Power in goal. I just hope Pj sees sense..
