The amount of times we took the ball into the tackle in defence and got turned over or conceded a free was criminal I'd love to see the stats on scores conceded in this manner

Enjoyable game without ever giving the impression of being full throttle championship fare. Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1942 - 28/04/2024 18:22:59 2541227 Link 2 |
I meant to say b4 today thought today thought it was a big day for Conor Cooney while he's the best club player in Galway he's barely score from play for Galway for 2 years. But without J cooney only one with a bit of size in fwd line. But by my count today 3/6 frees 2 blocked shots, 1 hit post and dropped 1 short with wind luckily a goal came from. What do we do with making him VC I thought was an odd pick but talent wise I'd only put whelan and mannion ahead of him. jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1526 - 28/04/2024 19:15:57 2541259 Link 1 |

Henry surely learned a lesson today that we all knew already. Evan takes the frees and starts no matter what form he is in or where he is playing. He makes Conor Cooney look like a junior b free taker. Savage striking today. The only conversation that needs to be had about taking him off the frees is when the brother comes along to senior intercounty! galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 898 - 28/04/2024 20:26:34 2541281 Link 3 |
Totally agree, ill admit i was shouting on this forum awhile ago hes replaceable but he stepped up today nailed some pressure frees and brought us back into the game. I thought galways man management of the game wasnt great, when kilkenny got a run on us with the breeze in last 10 mins of first half I thought we could have sat back and soaked that pressure knowing we had the wind in the second half but instead we ended up trailing kk by more. Thought we were lucky to get a draw tbh, concannons goal was lucky and wouldnt have happened if Murphy was in goal but in saying that alot of positives to take out of it. We have alot of work to do though if we are to win leinster. Wexford away next weekend wont be easy either regardless of their result yesterday

Henry Shefflin was a great player. He is not a great Manager as Galway have and will continue to find out. Kilkenny today were minus Eoin Murphy, Eoin Cody, Adrian Mullen, Mikey Carey and Galway at home scraped a draw with the game's last play. Does not bode well for Galway for the remainder of the championship. A full strength Kilkenny would be strong favourites in a likely Leinster final rematch unless Galway show major improvement from today.

Any news on the Morrissey injury??? Fingers crossed. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2509 - 28/04/2024 21:28:52 2541299 Link 0 |
In 22 they'd have been out of the championship if other results didn't go their way. Fair enough on 23 but you don't get bad Kilkenny teams. If there's one thing they do it's try and win all the time. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3598 - 28/04/2024 22:14:55 2541317 Link 2 |
Things often bode best for Galway hurling, when things don't bode well. Example? McIntyre retired in 2011, claiming that Galway were 'farther than ever away' from winning the all-ireland. Yet, Cunningham got them winning Leinster and drawing an all-ireland final the very next year.

But of course not winning the All Ireland until 2017. What's certain is that Galway will have to improve considerably on yesterday's performance to win anything this year.

But of course 6 years didn't equate to 'farther than ever'.

Yes of course thanks for the concern endgame. Roscommon footballers will have to do the same! lol

Yes we all know that. Another way of looking at it though is apart from the first 20 mins when I felt Galway were much the better team and missed many more clear-cut goal chances than KK during that time alone, it seemed KK did all the hurling for the remainder of the game but still could not get the "job done". The same has been true in the round robin for several years now. Galway don't play particularly well in the round robin but are still very difficult to beat if you cared to take a look at the statistics.

Agreed, Evan should play every minute from now on. Apart from the maths of such a high conversion rate, his scores yesterday inspired his teammates in a general way. Take his final free for instance…you could sense it deflated Kilkenny and we'd surely level, which we did. Hannon's frees inspire Limerick too not to mention TJ and Kilkenny. You could say Conor's misses had the opposite effect! Flaherty (UK) - Posts: 126 - 29/04/2024 10:19:49 2541397 Link 1 |
No threat Tommy k just we have to win and we cant keep playing as bad as we have been.Big game for both teams just think we need the win more.

Yes its so hard to understand Conor Cooney's drastically inconsistent form when he pulls on a Galway jersey versus when he wears a Toms jersey. He hasn't been consistent for Galway since 2017 and he is not getting any younger. Perhaps its the pace of intercounty he can't deal with or a lack of self-confidence but he certainly deserves to be dropped after the last day where he was back to shooting wides / hitting the post from frees and play when under very little pressure. The whole midfield diamond needs a shake-up at this stage with the slack marking, not tracking their opponents allowing easy scores etc. Along with C. Cooney the likes of Linnane, Glennon, David Burke, Monaghan and Concannon were not at the races for a lot of the game. Even Daithi and Whelan did not have their best games IMO. Just goes to show when the likes of JC, Coen, Harte and (the much maligned but unfairly so) Hanbury stepped away their replacements have not exactly set the world on fire. Even GMac would have been an improvement yesterday - Shane Cooney and Tiernan Killeen also need to be considered. Anyway lets hope for a drastic improvement in the Wexford game as we'll need it. "The Only Way Is Up" as Yazz once sang!

Have TJ Brennan, Ian McGlynn and Liam Collins been dropped off the panel? Also would they and some of the players that were dropped off the panel such Connaire, O'Hanlon and McManus performed any worse than the likes of Linnane, Glennon, David Burke, Monaghan and Conor Cooney yesterday?
