I Would take a league and Leinster all day long. Although an All Ireland would be monumental be being realistic a league and Leinster would be a brilliant year for us too

I'd be happy with a League final appearance and a Leinster final appearance tbh. If we won either it would be a bonus. Likewise if we got to an AISF that would be good too and wed have to see where that took us after that. Our panel is largely in their hurling prime years, the core has played together for alot of years and know eachothers games well, we are integrating younger players into it especially the last 2 years and lads like Flood, the 2 Recks, Dunbar, etc would be every bit as good as any hurlers their age in the country. While we havent won a Leinster title at u20/1 since 7 years ago every year we would have a few senior intercounty prospects. We won a Leinster minor title in 2019 and there are some serious hurlers coming through from that team now. We had 30 odd lads playing Fitzgibbon this year with a good few of those important core players on their teams especially DCU and ITC. Cornerback is actually the position we have really come on in in the last couple of years especially since Niall Corcoran came onboard. Shane Reck had a great game on TK last year and restricted him to very few points from play. Donohue has improved year on year. MOH very good there this year and Devitt also. Damien Reck missed most of last year also but is back to full form and fitness this year and has played most of his 50 games for Wexford there too and hes still only in his early/mid twenties. In fairness to Davy last year he gave Dunbar a championship start when he got back fully fit after injury, Flood, Dwyer, Shane Reck and Bailey also became regular starters under him last year while Devitt was also introduced to senior hurling and David Dunne noticeably got more games last year as did Joe O Connoemr who has gone travelling this year. So it's a bit of an anti Davy myth that he didnt give new lads a shot last year although he was fairly bad at it his first 3 years. For me our no.1 has to be to win Leinster this year and after that anything would be a bonus. I think an all Ireland is beyond us at the moment. Think Limerick and then Waterford are a little ahead of the chasing pack. Not sure whether going all out for the league would be good or bad preparation for the championship but Walsh cup and league has added depth to our panel which hasn't been the case for donkeys years.

Shane Reck was close to being our most effective player last year. Apart from keeping Tony Kelly quiet he played brilliantly against Kilkenny but it went unnoticed. He's small but skilled and knows how to hurl. I believe he's better than his brother and quite some way ahead of some of our options for corner-back.

A league and a Leinster title would be fantastic for Darraghs first year. Tbh I'd be disappointed if this group didn't win an AI in the next few years

League would be nice and welcome but more bonus category, i think we're capable of winning leinster 100% but all I'd be worried about now is finishing in the top 3 as i think there's currently a cigarette paper between ourselves, Dublin, Galway and Kilkenny. Incidently there's this idea out there that we were flat in last years championship but I actually think we were close to a Leinster championship considering there was nothing between us and Kilkenny in the 70 mins. Apart from a horror 20 mins against Clare we were good in last years championship.

I agree Wexico the first quarter against Clare was the only period of regular time championship hurling that we lost. It was just so bad that even though we played better than Clare the rest of the game and outscored them by 6 or 7 points we still lost the game by 3.

Like watching a junior b game. Hopefully it picks up in second half. Rory on a different level once again 1-6 of our 1-8 tally.

Fitness told in the end. But quite worrying how lethargic we were for so long. Then again, I would rather shake off cobwebs today than save a poor performance for the championship. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1500 - 05/03/2022 15:30:56 2403900 Link 0 |
Lax performance perfectly emphasised in the build up to the Offaly penalty, not a hope we would have let a team run through us like that in the 1st 3 rounds, I wouldn't be losing sleep though as I said before league form can be up and down across the board. Of the lads brought in taught Devitt really impressed and Hearne did well, Lawlor didn't put a foot wrong in goal too. Rory showed his class and took plenty of punishment just in the build up to the goal alone, Kevin Foley had a very good 2nd half. Flood and McGovern really impressed when introduced, on all known form Flood is an automatic starter for championship.

Not much to write home about in this match. We wore them down eventually but we made hard work of it for about 45 minutes. Offaly were right in there up to that time. There was substandard performances from most of our forwards. Of course Rory was a constant thorn in their sides throughout. I don't think Mac was fully fit going into the game and he was anonymous until he went off injured. Anyway we won by 8 points in the end and will go up against Cork with 4 wins from 4 games. A big improvement will definitely be needed if we are to maintain our unbeaten record. We will need Chin and Ryan back and everyone to up their game big time. I profoundly disagree with this. Remarkable athlete and unbelievably important and influential for us, but his hurling is probably the weakest part of his game. For pure stick men, the recks, dee, mac, jippo, all ahead of him. Rory is our best player hands down in my opinion. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3823 - 05/03/2022 16:57:50 2403920 Link 0 |
I think we are capable of an all Ireland but would need enormous luck. We can just as easily with nothing. My preference would be leinster, but I'd be thrilled if we won the league. I just can't see us doing both. If we did that would be an amazing year, but we'd have to build on that or what's the point. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3823 - 05/03/2022 17:00:04 2403921 Link 0 |
Job done, R O Connor is a joy to watch, oisin foley impressed me today. Please take J O Connor off the frees though. We'll done to the panel and management hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1150 - 05/03/2022 17:02:04 2403924 Link 0 |
Apparently chins knee injury is worse than was initially thought and he may need surgery which might rule him out for the season…not good news at all for our championship aspirations if it's true Purpleandgold72 (Wexford) - Posts: 275 - 05/03/2022 17:04:22 2403927 Link 0 |

That would be a hammer blow if true. Don't agree with Doylerwex about his skill. What makes him the player he is is that he has it all. Rory up there as well. 2 fantastic hurlers and lucky to have them in wexford

Big blow if true no other way of dressing it up.
