Replying To Blockandhook:  "Should we go all out with a strong team next Saturday and try to build on our scoring difference? Or should we rest some of our key regular players and start a good few of the younger lads thus giving them more game time
It would be good to get a big win against Offaly and then getting to a semi final. Offaly are improving a bit but even with an understrength side we should still win with something to spare."
Give the squad a game.
Lets say worst case, Offaly turn us over. We can still beat Cork to make a league semi final.
It is hard to know but if we get to League Final, we only have 2 weeks before Galway match. Not long to get the bumps and bruises out of the system.
The league will have served its purpose if we have a squad of 25 who have all got good game time and can be called on if needed v Galway.

Fully agree with this . Give some of the young lads like Higgins and Oisin Foley a start. Chin also needs game time if he could start that would be great. Although a league win would be great the fact it is only 2 weeks before championship does leave teams with a dilemma. Are we better going full belt in a league semi final or would we be better going in fresh for the Galway game after a few weeks training building upto the Galway game. I would argue the later as it's all about championship and it's vital we get off to a good start

Replying To Yellow:  "Lots of room for experimentation against Offaly on Sunday especially if Cork beat Galway on Saturday.

Fanning
S Reck D Reck Hanlon
Bailey S Donohue J O Connor
K Foley C Dunbar
O Foley Chin C Hearne
O Pepper MAC Higgins"
I'd like Conor Devitt to get a run too if he's fit, if all fit and available FB line of Shane Reck, Ryan and Devitt. I'd go with similar enough forwards and midfielders if there available, wouldn't mind Rory getting another start as he missed out on a few weeks earlier in the year can take him off after 45-50 mins if we're in a good position in the game, I'd give Seamus Casey some game time too, bit like Higgins reward his good form in Fitzgibbon.

Its like anything afinestick.
If we make league final, and go out and beat Galway and Dublin in opening 2 matches, the story will be "oh it was that league run that made the difference". If we lose to them, it'll be the league finals fault!
On the other hand, if we don't make league final and beat them both in the championship, it will be because we didn't get to league final!
I won't be losing my nut over any of the remaining games in the league, I hope the experimenting continues for how ever many games are left and more maybe's or U20s see more game time.

I'd agree. The one thing I'd caution is overdoing the experimentation. In that I mean you need to have experience around the newer guys. Therefore I'd put one of the younger lads in each line of the team plus Lawlor in goal. So a 9/6 split for each of the last two games and if we're in a league semi after that I'm not sure if we go all out to win the league. It's all about making sure we have our best 15 on the field for Galway and that may mean guarding against injuries. It may be the case that Egan would like to see that team in action before championship maybe for the cork game.

Hard one to call lads.

Not sure we should be turning our nose up at the possibility of winning a national competition.

We would all prefer a leinster but there's nothing certain and will be very tough this year.

On the other hand it's great to seeing us finding new players.

I'd expect we can still get a result at weekend if we experiment.

The pressure could be off if Cork best Galway the evening before anyway.

Ultimately, if we were to get to a final, we'd be mad not to go for it.

Yeah I agree about Saturday something like 8-9 starters probably the way to go. If we're in a good position in the 2nd half take off the established players and gives the fringe players the 70 mins.

Theres nothing like games to keep you sharp though. If we get to a league final we should give it our best shot.

I agree in a way too. Would be great to win the league . We haven't won one in 49 years . I think it's just a pity it's so close to championship . Although a league win would provide us with huge momentum also.

These are all questions we won't know the answer too until we have the benefit of hindsight.

We have never been in this enviable position as far as I can remember.

Rest players vs Offaly and go with and experimental team and still win by a cricket score - I suggest we dont prioritise the Cork game either.

Cork will beat Galway. Management and players should concentrate on the semi final at this stage which is three weeks away. If Darragh Egan can get us into a league final in his first year then it will be a massive achievement.

Pity that the game on Saturday and Good Counsel's All Ireland semi final will be clashing.

Mikie Dwyer would be there for me, gets through a serious amount of work, have him in for O Foley or Liam Og, Dunbar would be in the mix too, Shane Reck and Donohoe is probably a close call at corner back, I'd say I'd go for Reck. Good thing is if we can stay clear of injuries we've got some good options and hopefully subs to make an impact.

Leaving the u20s to play u20 then the Bench would be-
Lawlor, Morris, Dunbar, Dwyer, S Reck, Devitt, Bailey, Hearne, Mcguckin, D Dunne, Casey then.

Not a bad bench either. Maybe swap Dunbar and Oisin Foley?

Shane Reck is 100% in our best 6 backs.

When your speaking of the u20s seen a few were playing in Freshers semi finals last night, DCU beat CIT (won't give there new name) after ET, Cian Byrne of Rosslare(3rd choice senior goalie) was in goal and Diarmuid O'Leary of St Martins was down for no. 15, 2 lads I wouldn't have heard off myself, Eddie Kelly from Davidstown and Ciaran Doyle Maher of Rathnure were named in defence. UCD were given a big beating by UL, UCD had Robbie Hillis from Glynn corner back and Liam Schokman of St Annes (in the extended panel for seniors) named at 5 while David Codd of St Martins was named in the forwards. UL team is apparently unbelievably strong a freshers team and seen nearly as a Fitzgibbon standard team, they've Cathal O'Neill, Colin Coughlan and Adam English who are in the Limerick panel and Patrick Crotty from Clare who impressed so much against us, few from Tipp and Galway with big reputations too.
