It's a pity that kierens got back in after losing in leinster..it's great to see gc coming out as winners..I'm probably showing my ignorance but when was last time killkenny college didn't actually win leinster??

Proper order. No way should a combined schools team be able to win an All Ireland schools competition. The fact that they can eliminate a stand alone school is bad enough.

They should have a completely separate competition for combined schools.

Replying To Viking66:  "A very good young player WEX98. Potentially the best to come out of your club since Pat Nolan. Longterm would he be a good option at midfield?"
I'd play him at 6, he will link the backs and fowards, get forward as play develops, he's our shooter from deep, Declan Hannon role.

When are Kierans playing?

Yes indeed. Both Waterford and Dublin hurling has benefited from Amalgamated sides completing in the Harty and Leinster competitions.

Replying To wexico15:  "Apart from Shaun Murphy obviously, Egan's impresses me even in his media dealings, his quotes about Murphy just show a person with there head screwed on about things even outside of hurling."
Egan was a very popular figure among the Tipp players under Sheedy and it's easy to see why.

Don't forget Darragh Egan is only 36, he'd be only 4 or 5 years older than Morris and McGovern.

He understands lads at that age and what does and doesn't motivate them.

Replying To Punter72007:  "I think it's a good thing that we are not getting praised too much because we are a work in progress.

I was delighted with the win - great attitude and work rate again. Exactly what you want to see.

I think a word of caution needs to be said ... we did struggle in the second half.
As we integrate new players back in, it takes time to settle them all into a rhythm and style of play.
I agree with the sentiment here on this discussion forum, in that, what I want to see in the remaining games in the league is the same work-rate/hunger/attitude and also the continuing emergence of a style of play.
I like the way Wexford are playing, a mixture of long and short. The challenge is playing heads up hurling, making a decision which ball to play.
That takes time to develop and this Wexford team are making great strides and bedding this is in well.
As others have said, even a loss to Galway/Cork and I'd still be happy, if there was still the same work-rate/attitude and clear development of a style of play.

Overall great job so far by everybody involved with this team. Well done all."
On struggling at times in the 2nd half to give them credit I think a big part was Clare improving hugely from the 1st half.

How will that grow the sport in areas with less hurling? Or are you proposing that keeping the status quo is the most important thing in hurling and not be bothered growing the sport anywhere else??

He did ok at 6 2nd half against Clare when they came back at us. Foley has been getting better at the role also. Think its between the 2 who gets the job for the next 5 years. Although Donohue wasnt bad there last year either.

Agree to a certain extent Viking, however all of the schools in South Dublin is a huge student base. I think giving them the opportunity to compete as far as Leinster is fair and give stand alone schools a chance after this. Even though if there was no combined schools it might give St Peters some chance of doing something in Leinster which does seem a long time ago now.

2020. There was no competition in 2021. They did win every other 1 bar 2018 since GC last won it in 2009. Also worth bearing in mind half of GCs teams are Kilkenny lads.

Maybe when an area like Dublin get to the standard they are at now, with North Schools winning Leinster in 2018 and South schools getting to the final a way of keeping it fair will be review the structure and maybe make 4 teams instead of 2 if the 2 become too successful. I dont think we have reached that point with the Dublin North and South teams yet. And it's a model we should've followed and given proper support to here in Wexford many years before we did.

Did wexford have a combined colleges team in the competition this year. Didn't hear anything about them if they did. I'd have thought they would've had a decent team with enniscorthy cbs, wexford cbs and gorey cs all qualifying for the knockout stages of Leinster B

This is the first year they didn't have a team so as I know they were training for the '20/21 competition until it was cancelled by Covid

Hopefully it can be rekindled, would be great for the development of lads outside of Peters and GCC.
