I'm sure they would. As a matter of fact, I'd see it as a key part of considering Rory Jacob for whatever role he might happen to seek next. It's no different really from any organisation seeking references from former employers when somebody is looking for a job.

There is not that many inter county jobs and if the figures bandied about are accurate they are very lucrative. ExiledInWex (Dublin) - Posts: 1368 - 30/06/2023 16:34:10 2490878 Link 0 |
He was still under "contract" with Westmeath

No, not the case. Wexford's managerial selection committee put forward Egan's name as their recommendation in early September 2021, and he was ratified by the full Co. Board around the middle of that month. Fortune wasn't actually appointed as Westmeath manager until the end of the same month. Was more the case that Fortune wasn't under serious consideration for the Wexford senior manager job at the time because the most recent addition to his CV then would have been "coach with the Wexford U20 team that lost to Kildare", and that would hardly have been a ringing endorsement in anybody's eyes. How would you view Joe Fortunes first intercounty job with Westmeath overall Pikeman?

"A County Committee meeting was held on the night of 27 June 2023, the primary purpose of which was to agree the next steps in respect of the appointment of a Senior Hurling Manager for next year. As one of the stakeholders in the process, members of the Senior Hurling panel were in attendance at the meeting and they provided an outline of their views on the 2023 season. In looking forward to 2024, the players set out that they felt that Darragh Egan should be afforded an opportunity to put forward a clear action plan for 2024 based on learnings and feedback from the review of the 2023 season, so as to provide a clear basis upon which a decision on Senior Hurling Manager for 2024 could be made. In what was a very positive meeting, with engagement from all delegates, it was unanimously agreed by County Committee that the current review process continue and that the findings and output of it be presented to County Committee no later than 18 July 2023." That was the bulletin that was issued. So it will likely be after the 18th July before we hear any more. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 16124 - 03/07/2023 12:18:13 2491761 Link 0 |

Leaving it until July 18th is leaving it late in my opinion. What if the committee decide to look for a new management team? That may not be in place for weeks after when championship will be near over

Agree 100% Afinestick. The whole process has already took too long.

Should have been completed end of June at the latest. Surely a month is enough to complete the review. To me the facts are staring us in the face the results dont lie.

I'd be shocked if Egan isn't the manager next year the way things are working out.

Did Fortune commit to another year with Westmeath yet?

Yep I agree. I mean by the time the 18th of July comes and goes some clubs will have 2 hurling games left for the year with the vast majority having only 3 games left!! It's bonkers stuff really. Any new manager would see zero club games. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1515 - 04/07/2023 06:42:44 2492017 Link 0 |
