Goal came from Mayo having to kick it long from kick out

Yeah and cracking field from Killian a couple of minutes earlier. Mayo aren't transitioning quick enough for us to have to sit deep on their kickout.

We are blessed to be within 1 tho. Need to seriously lift it in the 2nd half and ball has to stick in the forward line. Shooting needs to be more intelligent too.

What a performance, that would beat most teams. Another performance like that next weekend and ya never know

Cavan will stay up. That performance today was outstanding. They will definitely beat Roscommon anyway, and will give Kerry a test as well. I reckon Cavan will finish on 5 points. Mayo are currently on 4 but given how inept, clueless and unmotivated they looked today, I can't see them taking anything from the Tyrone or Donegal games. Therefore, Cavan will stay up. Well done lads, you've defied the odds

Jesus I hope to god you're right. These lads deserve it. Even when they were poor against donegal, they weren't found wanting for effort.

We weren't good in the 1st half but Gearoid really stood up, the goal kept us in touch and I was hoping against hope that we'd kick on. But we did! The speed we moved from back to front was the difference. No stopping 45m out and allowing the opposition to sit in (tho it has to be said mayo had no interest in doing that anyway).

Gearoid was outstanding. Mcvitty, Clarke, Gerry Smith and Martin Reilly too.

Kerry will be a different prospect altogether but the standard has been set. The confidence should be there to emulate that performance. Hard to beat that winning feeling! Well done lads.

How can you make Cavan out to be so outstanding and Mayo so bad? It was game that could of went either way

People are losing the run of themselves after one good performance.

The reality is Mayo were complacent today and took us for granted. Having said that, we were solid and defied the odds. Madden is having a good year so far. He could be the man to build a forward line around. Gearoid was superb and took his goal well. Thought Rory Dunne and Martin Reilly covered plenty of ground and got on plenty of ball. The team looked much more structured and perhaps finally Mattie is putting his stamp on things. I don't believe relegation would be the worst thing for the lads. It's gonna take a new manager time to see whats what. But hopefully today marks a turnaround in fortune for us. Our fate is in our own hands now, if we win our last two games we survive. It's that simple.

Good result .. Great to get the 2 points.
BUT I thought the performance was poor..
Our short kickout does not work.'
Shooting inside 20m line in first half is brutal. Can't blame Mattie for that. These are suppose to be intercounty footballers.
Finally if you play 13 men behind the ball you MUST put in the tackles in your own half to try and win turnovers.
We let Mayo walz in and shoot at will without putting in a decent tackle.
Zonel defensive basketball positioning won't win turnovers.

Well this at least should shut up the armchair critics until next Sunday at least. Great result and well worked for. I was not there so I cannot comment on who played well or not as I had a ladies match on the 3G at 2pm.
I am delighted now things are falling into place. Still a lot of work but now for the bedgrudgers this day belongs to the believers.

This was a very good performance today and one that we should enjoy and be proud of. I thought McKiernan was top class and he is putting up some serious tallys from midfield. The team chosen today had a strong base down the middle and I thought our half back and half forward lines in particular were excellent. We have reason for optimism but Kerry will be a very tough game on sunday. If we can perform to that level once more then I think that we can win. I think that today will give these lads belief that they can beat the big teams on any given day.

Congratulations to the lads!

No argument with that. Well done to all concerned. Well impressed with Young Madden and Dillon stuck to the task. Mattie got it right today.

McEnroe was named on the bench for the Donegal game. Think Jack is training with the team but not sure. Don't know about the others.

Thought Killian was excellent at CB, although he didn't play the whole game there.

Apart from his first kickout which he scuffed, I wouldn't blame Galligan. His accuracy is incredible, it's the lack of movement that kills us.

Yes a brilliant result but wouldn't agree with you about Madden...thought he was very poor in the first half... He improved after the break when drifting out the field and got a nice point... McVitty and McKiernan were standouts but everyone put in a great shift... I was not that surprised with the result as Mayos home league record is awful lately .. we really need Mayo to loose their last 2 matches if we are to stay up...

Just back from castlebar & delighted to get our first win of the campaign. Thought we started poor & took nearly 20 mins to get our first score from play but we grew in confidence from there onwards & the goal just before half time was a great boost. We worked extremely hard & as I posted yesterday I think our team is finally taking shape. Rory at full back, Killian back in the half back line, Gearoid mid field all played immense. Don't know why it took so long to get them in their correct positions but hopefully we have consistency now. Also smith & mcvitty very impressive. Might not be happy reading for some posters here but I think we went back to terry Hyland's style of play & the lads seemed a lot more comfortable. Would have to say I was disappointed with mayo & thought they lacked urgency throughout & only for Keegan & Kirby they were extremely average today. Congrats to the lads & management. Great vibes from cavan supporters after the game

We finally seem to be learning. Manager not making subs after a few minutes. Didn't give away scorable frees. McKiernan McVeety and Martin Reilly will rightly get all the plaudits. However also impresses with Gunner and Fergal Reilly. Galligans kick pass to Joe Dillon was an absolute delight.
