Great start to 2017 not only did Cavan play direct football today they took scores from distance , and actually bossed Tyrone whitch was a nice change , didn't know what to expect especially with only 4/5 players starting from the championship last year. The new faces certainly didn't let us down , team selection will not be easy at this rate a lot of Dept in this panel of players make for a very healthy option for Mattie and Co

Could we have a stop to all the bickering lads and move on.
A great first win for Mattie and great hope for the coming year.
A lot of new faces doing well and lots more to be tried.
Things are improving and I believe Mattie has a very united squad.
Terry laid the ground-work for him and he could now take us to a higher level.
The league will be difficult but it's onwards and upwards for Cavan hopefully.

Good start for all concerned today. Thought we looked a lot sharper than Tyrone throughout. Some very impressive performances especially Gerard Smith, Martin Reilly & Ciaran Brady but everyone worked hard. Great to see the bench being emptied & a lot of lads getting game time. Hope Buchanan not to badly injured. Exactly like I posted last week this competition is to be respected for getting competitive games & be ready for the first round of the league

Focus on the lads who are there for Cavan and the lads who want to be there, this will foster a culture of excellence within the squad. Well done Mattie and well done to a group of largely inexperienced players who got the win today.

After 1 match?? if i remember correctly we hockied Armagh at this point last year...You see thats the amazing thing Arrrrrrrrrrnoooowww, you could always find fault with Terry no matter what was done (regardless if you agreed with him or not). Were you at the game yesterday and what style of football was it?? or was it just that Terry wasn't the manager.

Mattie is a nice guy and you can tell that from his comments but its the ruthlessness that he will instil in a team and that cant be done a the flick of a switch, let alone early January so i wonder where your optimism is coming from.

why do some reviews of the game state that Michael Argue came on and scored 2 points. what's the story there, It was clearly Niall McKiernan.

This was a good start to 2017. Thought we played well with the personnel on show and I would imagine that there will be others involved in 2 weeks. I think that McCutcheon and Argue will play more part next weekend. I was impressed with how we matched up to them physically and I hope that this is the way forward. Gerry Smith looked sharp and showed his man a fresh set of heals a few times. Also liked the look of our back line although Tyrones shooting was poor. McAliskey will be a massive loss for them. Not much sign of defensive systems on show yesterday and I do think it is a thing of the past for us. I cant say I have been at a McKenna cup game in Breffni with that many people before. Good game and always nice to beat Tyrone albeit not too common an occurance. We need to keep the heads down and try to get another win against Donegal (U21's or seniors) next Sunday which will secure a semi final spot and give us a chance to try some others in the final game.

Nobody is getting excited yet and no need to either. A good start to the year and lets move on with our preparation for the league.
