Defensive mode for the Championship, averaging a mere 19.6 points per game. If this is true we will smash this average this year playing attacking football, I'm basically offering you free money here Awwwwnow, I'll even give you 2/1 odds!!! Put your money where your mouth is.

Great start to 2017 not only did Cavan play direct football today they took scores from distance , and actually bossed Tyrone whitch was a nice change , didn't know what to expect especially with only 4/5 players starting from the championship last year. The new faces certainly didn't let us down , team selection will not be easy at this rate a lot of Dept in this panel of players make for a very healthy option for Mattie and Co ulster40 (USA) - Posts: 79 - 08/01/2017 19:58:12 1944088 Link 0 |

Good start for all concerned today. Thought we looked a lot sharper than Tyrone throughout. Some very impressive performances especially Gerard Smith, Martin Reilly & Ciaran Brady but everyone worked hard. Great to see the bench being emptied & a lot of lads getting game time. Hope Buchanan not to badly injured. Exactly like I posted last week this competition is to be respected for getting competitive games & be ready for the first round of the league bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 08/01/2017 21:47:36 1944136 Link 0 |

"It's a great start. I'm absolutely delighted - the effort of the players there was fantastic. The players that weren't there, well, they have to earn the right to get in. Inactive x5 (Cavan) - Posts: 1452 - 08/01/2017 22:45:03 1944165 Link 1 |

In Tyrones first two league outings they score 10 and 1-11, won division 2, won Ulster and then hailed as the team to topple Dublin, whats your point exactly?

Lads why do you engage certain posters? There are a few on here that can never be wrong. If we win it proves them right, if we lose it proves them right as well. Literally pointless trying to provide facts or counter arguments. They are not listening. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12494 - 09/01/2017 12:32:34 1944264 Link 1 |

Cavan. J Farrelly; F Reilly, P Faulkner, K Brady; C Brady, M Reilly, N Clerkin; T Corr, K Clarke; J Dillon, N McDermott, S Tierney; G Smith, L Buchanan, S Johnston. Subs: P O'Connor for Buchanan (18), N McKiernan for Tierney (ht), T Mooney for Dillon (46), S O'Rourke for Corr (49), J McLoughlin for O'Connor (64), C Smith for Johnston (67 b/c). Did anyone see the Johnston/ Donnelly incident? the Tyrone crowd beside us were livid but surely he must have been sent off for something? plus Johnston would hardly be silly enough to get a man sent off a month out from the league game against them?? theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 09/01/2017 13:44:20 1944293 Link 0 |

I wasn't at the game. I was listening to northern sound online and the commentator said that Donnelly punched Seanie off the ball. Not sure if he was giving his account of it or if he'd been given that info from someone. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5333 - 09/01/2017 14:19:23 1944306 Link 0 |

Thank you. Seems like a fair amount of changes from the team named on Saturday. Great to have such a big panel and everyone seems to be happy. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 09/01/2017 14:28:05 1944307 Link 0 |

I think he did, Mattie got a raw deal, not very sporting.

why do some reviews of the game state that Michael Argue came on and scored 2 points. what's the story there, It was clearly Niall McKiernan. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5524 - 09/01/2017 14:47:25 1944316 Link 0 |

This was a good start to 2017. Thought we played well with the personnel on show and I would imagine that there will be others involved in 2 weeks. I think that McCutcheon and Argue will play more part next weekend. I was impressed with how we matched up to them physically and I hope that this is the way forward. Gerry Smith looked sharp and showed his man a fresh set of heals a few times. Also liked the look of our back line although Tyrones shooting was poor. McAliskey will be a massive loss for them. Not much sign of defensive systems on show yesterday and I do think it is a thing of the past for us. I cant say I have been at a McKenna cup game in Breffni with that many people before. Good game and always nice to beat Tyrone albeit not too common an occurance. We need to keep the heads down and try to get another win against Donegal (U21's or seniors) next Sunday which will secure a semi final spot and give us a chance to try some others in the final game.
