Replying To Reformation:  "Ah lovely, we are back to talking about football and not just Cavan Gaels and Terry Hyland.

I have to admit, i'm in 2 minds about driving down to this one. I think Clare are playing a good brand of football and I am half interested in seeing them in action. It can't see how we can possibly play in any sort of cohesive fashion as this is essentially the first game of the year. We can't say that the McKenna Cup was anything other than county trials for some potentials.

Clare got off to a good start to their year and had one hand on the McGrath Cup only for a last minute goal to rob them off a deserved victory over Cork. So it is hard to see our lads get the points but I hope that I am wrong. I have to say also, I have never been more doubtful about the line up of a cavan team. I couldn't even guess who his starting 15 will be."
The Gaels and Terry Hyland are football, the difference being, one is a very successful club team, the other left Cavan Football in a mess.

Such rubbish. A mess is where we are now. A mess is not getting into Div 1. As for the gaels,
They are the best team in a county with very poor standard of club football.

To say Terry left Cavan football in a mess is nonsense. Looks like Deanmartin has a new account.

Tomsmith here

I have read all the posts that are posted about our chances I the National Football league aginst County Clare.
I have a suggestion. Seeing that our County panel is in such a shambles with no spine no big names and it appears from the Mc Kenna cup that we got no new talent lets play a Gaels team against Clare we need the points.
I know youse will all be up in arms that we need to play our best team , but lets face it the Cavan Gaels team is one of the best at present. Super fit played high profile football all year, lets give it atry

Ha ha. Division 1 is awful messy. Could it be that Dean Martin has now, what, his fourth account on the go?

Hyland made great strides as an u21 manager but sadly didn't have the know how or the management team to be a successful inter county manager. But it took 5 years for that penny to drop.
Yes we got promoted to div 1 but every man and his dog knew we weren't going to survive there regardless who was manager.
Mattie is left with the task of rallying the troops after a poor year last year.
He needs to show improvement both tactically and results wise to prove he's capable of the job.
For the last 20 years 1 officer and 1 officer only has had a big big say in who became Senior Manager.
We have had some disastrous appointments in Andrews, Carr but nobody was ever held accountable.
Every officer should have to be elected by the clubs.

1st rule of replacing a manager, make sure you have a better one ready to step in. In case you suffer from dementia or choices ended up being Banty or Mattie. Yes it would be great if some high profile manager who really wanted to be Cavan manager was out there but the fact is they weren't . So you and lads like you brought the whole thing down with no one any better out there to hire. Look at us now 12 months on.

Hyland got us up two divisions in those five years but you consider that not having the know-how?

Hyland took those players as far as he could . He was involved with previous managers as well as his own term probably totalling 10 years.
So the no more he could do.
He was involved when Johnston and lyng were let go and brought Johnston back 5 years later.
Funny that both players are still 2 of the best in the county 5 years later.
Same for Kevin Meehan.. had him ran him and look at the football he's playing now.
Change the record Fredflint. Hyland is gone and good riddance.

I didn't say he didn't take as far as he could, I pulled the obvious hole in your point that he didn't have the know-how to be successful. I said he took us up two divisions which is success in anybody's language. Anyone without an agenda of course.

And I'm not fredflint. Hyland's name rarely appears unless you bring it up.

Yes, he got promotion to Division One, but sure most of the top teams were only warming up for the Championship at the league whilst Hyland had Cavan training from October and were at peak fitness.

Hyland failed when it came to the important part of the season...Championship Football....his record in Championship Football is as bad as previous managers.

The style of football was absolutely abysmal to watch, he took the any enjoyment of out of going to matches, so much so, that attendances in Breffni went down.

Dean, you're logging in with the wrong account. You're using your cavanblueman account to reply on behalf of inandaroundthehouse. It's a schoolboy error. And the inter-continental cup is the biggest giveaway of all. Only one poster has ever used that term, and he used it to death. It's all getting pretty embarrassing.

Anyway, I think we have you now. You have no agenda whatsover and the only reason Cavan got to Division 1 is because nobody else was trying.

Are the moderators on holidays these days?

I see Cavan are currently top of Division two (teams listed in alphabetical order) on the HS homepage. I seriously hope I'm wrong but with Mattie in charge it's very likely the only time we're going to see that this year. After all that Terry done to restore pride in the blue and white over the last number of years, it's hard to believe jus how low morale is in the county.

Posters here can't accept any criticism of Hyland despite an abysmal championship record.
He had 5 years where Mattie is only on his 2nd year and posters are calling for his head.
The football Hyland played was the most negative dire football that any Cavan team ever played for as long as I remember .
Yes he got us to Div 1.. after the PLAYERS decided to change things at half time in the Meath game.

- Point out where anyone called for Matties head.
- You really believe that nonsense that the players just decided to play differently at half time against the managers wishes, are you really serious saying that.
- Top scoring team in Div 2 promotion year - hardly dire negativity.
- For a crap championship manager we got to the last 8 for the 1st time since the back door came in.
- The foundation for this was laid by the previous manager who ditched trouble makers who thought they they were bigger than Cavan GAA - now they know that no one is bigger than Cavan GAA.

I hope Mattie proves me wrong and is successful. Tha'ts the difference between you and me. I want Cavan to do well at the back of it all no matter who is the manager. You and Deanmartin and the cronies only posted when you could kick Terry Hyland. Nothing to say when we won a game. It was a vendetta because he put manners on some of your buddies.
