Let's hear your take on our last 5 years championship record? Championship record?
Or do you have an opinion?"
I look in from time to time to read the more balanced posters' opinions. I have no inside track on what's happening in the set-up and it's too early to judge McGleenan.

Cavan's championship record has been largely poor in the last decade. We lack forwards. There's an argument that we should have developed forwards and there's an argument that the managers involved realised that we don't have the necessary forwards and so devised a plan on that basis.

You see, it doesn't have to be a black and white issue. I don't feel the need to be pro or anti Terry Hyland. I don't feel the need to mention a scoreless first half in a McKenna Cup final or to mention the inter-continental cup. Once I read these comments all they deserve is the ridicule I give them, and hence the nature of my posts. The forum is largely ruined by posters who don't want to discuss issues in a balanced way. They just want to criticise those that they've decided are to blame; an opinion they're unwilling to change.

Then throw in the mindless posts of Tom Smith and the "I cant name names" stuff from the groundsman and it's all very tiresome.

So until the mods get a grip of what's going on then I'll just continue to treat the forum as I've done to this point.

Thanks for asking.

The reason just for the record that I could not name names was because as groundsman I saw what was going on, I knew who were injured and so on. I am sure you can understand the situation I was in to be fair. But I am sure you don't understand this. It's called trust and like the priest in the confessional he is bound to silence. I hear names being mentioned that are in or not in I could not tell you if they were or not because it's the management or the players themselves to say if they are or not involved. I rest my case. Is mise Sean O'Rinn

Reading in the Anglo Celt that our Captain for 2018 Dara McVeety has dealt with the question of player turn over and I like his attitude. Players were invited in some have committed others couldn't for whatever reason. From here on out can we concentrate on supporting the panel that have committed to wear the Royal Blue of Cavan in 2018 and stop wasting time with pointless discussion. We need to fix club football and coaching within our County there has been a complete over emphasis on athletic performance and no attention to developing skills.

No matter what team sport you look at the Teams that are most successful and bring greatest enjoyment to both their own fans and neutrals alike are those who can execute the basic skills consistently to a high level.

In fairness he has said nothing that we are all saying here for years.

The one line I like however that again we have being saying:: We need to fix club football and coaching within our County there has been a complete over emphasis on athletic performance and no attention to developing skills.

However I am confused by these words "emphasis on athletic performance" going back a long time and again on here people have being saying how unfit the players look does that mean they are unfit burnt out have not the ability to perform for 70 odd minuets or what.

Players not committing well here is an issue that really needs to be addressed. 35 plus players in normally yet only 20 or 21 can play in a match but the problem is once the season starts this has been the way for a long time now it's the same players that are used as subs the rest will only be making up numbers would you want to burst your B@@@s training week after week to sit on the bench. Don't tell me this has not been the case, This Saturday will give us an idea who the starting 15 will be plus subs and if it is like before you will be almost able to pick the team and predict the exchange of players through out the match.
I hope the new manager will be different BUT WILL HE ????

You got a perfect example of this a few years back in Croke Park a player was substituted in an under 21 match and Cavan get a free to draw the game it was going to be the last kick of the match What happened next ???? If you were there I am sure you are still sick with what happened.

I don't see great club football in Donegal yet they contested 2 all Ireland's in the last 6 years winning 1.
Nor do I see great club football in Down or Cork yet the contested an All Ireland in 2010.
Derrys club football is strong yet their County team is v v average.
So your club football argument doesn't add up.

Inaround the house.

You can bemoan the fact that Cavan have a poor team and offer al type of excuses, but the simple answer is that Cavan Gaels have very little opposition in Cavan. That says what the rest are like.
Sean O Rinn the groundsman up in the park describes his position as being similar to a Priest in the confessional box sworn to secrecy , well Sean one thing you make no secret off is the fact you don't support the Gaels.
I myself feel that Mattie who is a lovely fellow is in a terrible position, having to follow Terence Hylands role ( Hyland had to follow Donal). I feel that Mattie should have organised a few Divisional games and it would have shown him what talent he has. Also sensible people should unearth any good prospects that would play the way Cavan should play. It is up to us to suggest a good spine for the Cavan Senior team.

Just a quick message here to seanorinn.

Sean - obviously you are entitled to your opinions as much as the next man or woman, but I do not think it is appropriate - and I have thought this for a long time - that you are posting here all the time despite your role as groundsman at Breffni Park.

Although you say you are "like the priest in the confessional...bound to silence", I believe you should not be commenting on here because even though you often write about "not naming names" stuff, your allusions and hints about what you see at closed training sessions are often more than enough.

I think you should seriously consider the amount of posting you do here, based on what you are seeing at training sessions, regardless of whether you are naming names or not. It is not appropriate, in my opinion.

Tomsmith here

That is a statement that is more akin to someone that would be promoting censorship.
Why should my old friend Sean o Rinn not post on HS. He is like myself a senior poster who you may or may not remember a few years ago stated he had a communications course done and he held an important position in life from the time in 1974 when he came up from Cork until his retirement . Sean has in man opinion has stated facts known to all and always give a great insight into how he felt Cavan should line out and indeed he often voiced an opinion that did not suit the clip board men. In my opinion he is a excellent posted and if he has a fault it is that he is not a strong Cavan Gaels supporter.
So Sean that weakness you have can be easily be corrected by becoming a Cavan Gaels supporter

Yes very good post. I mentioned this a while back as a monagahn man that I found this very inappropriate and strange. Would Mattie McGleenan be happy that the grounds man who is in and around the team and watching who is training and not training is commenting on an online forum?

On a side note, fantastic picture on HS of a fantastic moment ie. McVitty's goal against Kerry last year, definitely the highlight of the campaign for me, the terrace shook with the cheer. Sound choice for captain!

You hit the nail on the head, poor Sean is to be debarred from HS because he is doing a wonderful job up in the park.
If you will recall the park was looking very well during 2017 and while Sean may not have been in full health he still ensured that we had games all year round

Thank you very much cavanblueman and I have been a loyal supporter of your County team and I like others don't know the team until it's announced. I don't post that people are in or out despite all the posts made on here by many saying he is gone or he is in. To declan and the monaghan man I don't hide behind the alias name like you both and many others. I am who I am Sean O'Rinn. It does look like people are trying to censor me well a bit late don't you think. I retired in September after being helping around the park for near on 40 years 21 years on my own after major surgery. Tom Smith I have been in Cavan longer than 1974 I married my wife in 1973 a Cavan Lady so a wee bit wrong as to how long I have been here in Cavan but that does not matter. Thats neither here nor there.
Maybe now the shackles are off I might be more vocal and say who are either good enough or not. Love me or loath me I don't give a rats ass. Just don't hijack the topic confronting me concentrate on what many of you know nothing about that's quality players good player and very poor player's.
Enjoy yourselves.

Thanks John for all your hard work and dedication over the years. The Park always looked great on the big occasions. Now back to the football. That is a very inexperienced team that is named against Clare but those players that are making their debuts will not let us down. Some if not all of them did well in the McKenna Cup despite the whole team not performing too well. With The likes of Faulkner, Ciaran Brady, McVitty , Killian Clarke in the spine it will be interesting. Also The bench is experienced in the main. I thought Big McKiernan from Lacken would have been included from the start but perhaps he will be introduced at some stage along with his namesake. Also with the likes of Mackey, Moynagh and Conor Madden on the bench we could easily turn things around if they are going bad. However having said all that the issue of player turnover has certainly been illustrated once again with 10 newcomers. What other county would have similar numbers of new faces ?

10 debutants.

Practically an entirely new team to the one Terry worked tirelessly to build up over 5 years. Almost totally replaced because our best footballers do not want to play for us.

Shambolic. Farcical. Unforgivable.

The players just dont want to play!!! Cant blame standard of football in the county and say Gaels have no competition when they have only won 3 of the last 7 or 8 its not like Cross when they won 19 of 20 or whatever it was. The players are there but they dont want to play for something they done believe in! Best of luck to the lads who actually want to be there this weekend!

As always, I wish the team and management all the best tomorrow and for the year ahead.

Having said that, I genuinely worry that we will be relegated to division 3. I'd have been optimistic enough given the experience of division 1 last year but to have such player turnover is seriously concerning!
