Gaels would have bet that team handy and maybe another couple clubs in Cavan run them tight.

Couldn't make the game in Antrim today, got quite the shock checking twitter after the game after seeing us get 1-1 in the first two minutes i had high hopes. If anyone went, would they be able to give a quick synopsis on the game? Seems an experimental team couldn't hack a division 4 team, quite worrying but not to be taken too harsh on the squad. Brian Magee, Niall Clerkin, Enda Flanagan, Conor Brady, Oisin Keirnan and Niall McKeirnan seem to have scored it all which is a very low spread in a game with 16 scores.

Replying To Shelbourne:  "Lads keep the head....that was a Cavan B team today....manager has to try out new players....traditionally Cavan seem to have fielded pretty strong selections in McKenna & you just don't learn from that...so never mind the defeat today......rather any new names showing promise !"
Enda Flanagan and Oisin Keirnan have impressed in my eyes.

3 weeks to Clare. Hardly a first tear player in sight on the panel. Good to see a few lads show well but really when are we going to get our McKiernans, Clarkes, mcvittys etc playing with the new guys in next 3 weeks. Are we just going to throw them altogether in Ennis and hope for the best. Team we played today wouldnt get within 10 points of Clare. I am really not sure what the approach is, maybe we are conceding the league to concentrate on championship?

You must be from Scotstown cheering for Mattie?, otherwise why are you concerned about Cavan?

Why are Monaghan boys on the Cavan Forum before competitive football has even began. Obsessed.

I'm not particularly concerned about Cavan....just feel that if you don't try out new players in McKenna then you never will. So winning McKenna matches should not be an issue for any county. Give Mattie a chance and your heads a rest !

As a monaghan man I have no problems with your post regarding blooding new players BUT in fairness we don't have 8 weeks more to the start of the league we only have three weeks so it's over experimenting that concerns me. You know your boss does not do this so why should we in Cavan be happy with it. Dublin can afford this luxury and a few other Counties but please don't patronise us with Cavan should be fielding an experimenting panel. Three weeks to what has to be one of our most important season in ten or so years we need every player available for if we approach Clare with contempt we will get a very heavy bloodied nose for sure.
This is what worries me and I expect many loyal Cavan supporters as well. I said we would be beaten today to a Cavan man on facebook whereas he expected a Cavan win.
This was my post to him
regardless )))))) what ever happens Sunday we are in deep S**T I am sorry to say. I would not be a bit surprised if Antrim beat them for right now this team don't know each other so a massive disadvantage from the off.

Sean I respect your opinion and passion for football but our boss does practice what I'm advocating by trying a multitude of new players in McKenna i.e against Fermanagh he had only 2 first teamers and 5 squad players in his starting 15. We lost against a strong Fermanagh selection but reports indicate that up to 5 new players put in strong performances and I suppose could be considered for squad inclusion. What'e wrong with Mattie doing the same for Cavan ?

You have the luxury of starting with a strong 15 for the league for I am sure the full panel are in training this is not the case here if it's true the gaels are not available yet we are in deep S**T and thats a fact. I have no problems in nurturing new players but we start the national at the end of the month no time for messing about. I don't like the McKenna cup but on this occasion circumstances are different because of the short transition from a Micky mouse competition to a very important league campaign.

Yes we made such a good impression on the championship this past 6 years.
How many Ulster championship games did Hyland win?
How many finals did he reach? Give Mattie the same time as Hyland got. 5 years

It's the first week in January and it's a long year between county and club for players.
Most counties are using their 2nd or 3rd strings to try and unearth some new talent .
Teams won't even be at half strength for the league.
Key players need a break, a few months off from competitive football and training to recharge the batteries.
Gaels lads have been training and playing right up to end of November and are entitled to at least a 2 month break .
No county at the moment has a fitness advantage over anyone else at this stage. So it's all to play for .
If we can get 1/2 new players with a bit of potential on board for the league we'll the McKenna cup will have been a success.
Holding our own in the top half of Div 2 and a good run in the championship ( maybe to the last 12 ) will be a successful season.

I just highlighted one line from your post and to be honest with you I find it very hard to believe that most counties are trying new players while the so called possibles are either sitting in their arm chairs or even watching the game.
One does not even know how many gaels players will be in on the panel if any so we have to wait you say until the league is almost over before they come back.
This is one of the most important years in a long time where Cavan needs everyone at the helm for should we end up in Division 3 it will be a total disaster that could have been avoided. (that's assuming we do get relegated off course? I hope to god we don't)

Remember the start of the national league has been brought forward so you say it's all right if any new gaels players that are coming into the panel that they will slot in easy if they have not played at senior level for their county I don't think so they would be no different than what is being tried at the moment for they are not special.
Maybe they are training all ready but talking to one of the gaels lads he told me they were taking two months off thats all I know.
Should Tyrone come out Wednesday night in Breifni and beat Cavan well will we have learnt anything about the young lads that are being blooded??? so it's back to the drawing board to try and get a strong 15 to 20 players for Clare the last week in January less than three weeks away. However should Cavan win I will hold my hand up and say I got it wrong and look forward with confidence we will be fine.

For as long as I can remember what you saw playing in the McKenna cup the majority would be your team for the year either as seniors or juniors.
