French says let's be in for a penny, not a pound
July 04, 2008
Arthur French has the chance to claim the title of Wicklow's most successful manager if he is instrumental in having the team retain the Tommy Murphy Cup.
The Mayo business man's attitude is 'if any competition is worth competing in, then it is worth winning. In for a penny, in for a pound and we will give it out best shot and see that happens.'
French had planned to get the players together on Monday evening last to gauge the mood following the disappointment of 'leaving the Leinster championship quarter-final behind them in Carlow.' He is not expecting an easy game against Waterford when the team opens its defence of the trophy. "We had a fierce battle with Waterford in the league, only turning the game around in the second-half after being down at half-time." He expects John Kiely's men to 'come at us with all guns blazing.'
