Newtown club notes

June 23, 2008
Newtown Senior team travelled to Aughrim on Sunday to play county champions, Baltinglass, in the first round of the County Championship. A lacklustre performance from Newtown gave the upper hand to Baltinglass, and the half time score was 0-07 to 0-01. Newtown enjoyed somewhat of a revival in the second half and cut the deficit to 2 points, and indeed could have gone ahead had some golden opportunities not been missed. However it was Baltingless who finished strongly and were the better team on the day.  Newtown can improve on this performance and qualify from this group and get to the quarter final stages of the championship. Final score was Newtown 0-06, Baltinglass 0-13. Newtown scores came from Garrett Doyle and Dean Odlum 0-02 each, and John Heffernan and Jason Collins 0-01 each. Check fixtures column for next match in the championship. The Junior team had another good win in the league over St. Pats, on Thursday night, and maintain their position at the top of this league. A VHI GAA Cul Camp is taking place in Newtown from July 14th to 18th. There is still time to enrol for a great week of fun. Application forms can be obtained at the school from Jim O'Riordan. The cost is Ä55, and each child will receive a free jersey, shorts, socks and bag. Lotto is now at Ä6,200, so have a go!
