Leinster club IFC final: Hayden leads Éire Óg to provincial success

December 05, 2011
Having been dumped out of the Leinster JFC by Confey back in '04, Éire Óg, Greystones got their pay back with a two point win over the Kildare champions at Aughrim. 0-8 to 0-6.

Confey went in at the break with a two point lead - 0-2 to 0-4. James Gately got the games opening score on two minutes before Joe Keogh put them two ahead after 20 minutes.

County star Darren Hayden got the ball rolling for the Greystones men and moments later full forward Billy Cuddihy doubled their tally.

After the resumption, Éire Óg fought back with a few more scores courtesy of corner forward Daniel Webb to leave the sides tied at 0-5 a piece entering the last quarter.

Disaster struck for the Kildare side when they had their captain Joe Keogh dismissed for a red card. Webb pushed his side ahead for the first time in the game with another fine effort but the impressive Gately levelled the sides again to leave it at 0-6 to 0-6.

With less than 5 minutes to the end, it was anybody's game. The inspirational Hayden stepped up with a fine effort to put the home side in pole position before he sealed the deal with his third of the day.

Éire Óg will now meet Mayo and Connacht champions Moy Davitts in the All Ireland IFC semi finals.
