DONARD/GLEN FOOTBALL NOTES
Somebody in the village will be happy this year; there won't be too many bonfires.
On Friday evening our senior camogie team lost their all county league game to old rivals Kiltegan.
On Saturday in Aughrim our seniors were completely outclassed by Rathnew. Playing against the wind in the first half our lads were doing quite well until about ten minutes from the break a Leighton Glynn, Tommy Gill one two resulted in a brilliant goal. We were still in the game until we had a man sent off and that was the end of the game as a contest.
You don't give a team like Rathnew an extra man and beat them. While our lads battled to the bitter end there was only one team in it in the second half.
Our Ladies football semi final was called off on Monday evening in Coolkenno due to the tragic death of Katherine Glennon whose sisters played on our ladies team during the last couple of years.
This game will be played somewhere around Clonmore or Coolkenno on Thursday (tomorrow)
Our Junior footballers will play their championship game V Arklow on Saturday next. Best of luck to them.
Donard-Glen Juvenile GAA
Great numbers turning out for training as usual. We played an under 12 blitz in Blessington on Monday 23rd August. Only ourselves, Hollywood and Blessington turned up. They really enjoyed the nights football and thanks to Blessington for hosting. Our team comprised Emma Lynch Cunningham, Niamh Doyle, Conor Kelly, Brian Dunne, Michael Kelly, Sorcha Wright, Aoife Grace, Shane Eager, Richard Moody, Amy Metcalfe, Chloe Dwyer and Claire Grace. Well done to all. We are hosting Go-Games next Saturday 4th Sept at 10am in Donard. No training on the morning. Further information will be sent out by text closer to the date.
