Donard-Glen club notes

August 09, 2010
Championship time of the year for all our teams.
First up were the senior camogie team on Tuesday evening who beat Ballinacor.
On Wednesday our U16 camogie team lost to Avondale.
On Wednesday in Donard our ladies football team were very unlucky to loose to Arklow in the championship. A goal down after two minutes our girls fought back to gain the lead and lose it again and were a point down with time almost up when we missed a penalty. Still another brilliant display by all the girls who will play Baltinglass on Wednesday (tonight) in Donard at 7.30 in our last championship game in this grade.
Team was Laura Deering, Katie Brannigan, Sarah Reid, Andrea Birchall, Clare Harney Laura Allen Catherine Byrne, Siobhan Figgis, Emma Harney, Subs; N. Walshe, C. Kinsella, M. Byrne, D. Norton, A. Deegan, L. Dwyer, and S. Byrne.
On Saturday in Baltinglass where our senior mans team played their last and crucial game against Carnew, our lads had to win this one to stay in the championship. Games between Donard and Carnew down through the years have been tough rugged encounters. A fussy ref. who handed out yellow cards like confetti at a wedding made sure their was no rough stuff.
The lead changes hands on several occasions and it was not until Dermot Daly scored the games only goal a few minutes from time the championship and league points were safe.
Team was E. Walshe, R. Conron, B. Daly, M. Daly, A. Tutty, c. Toomey, M. Halloran, B. Lennon, J. Hanbidge, R. Halloran, C. Osbourne, T. Dwyer, T. Daly, D. Rodgers, D. Daly; Sub; J. Whyte, H. Mangan and R. Toomey.
On Thursday last our junior team lost to table toppers Baltinglass in Donard and after the game they decided to start training, I suppose better late than never.
