NFL 4: Wicklow too strong for neighbours
March 07, 2010
Wicklow made it three wins from four in Division 4 of the NFL with this double-scores victory over neighbours Carlow in Aughrim.
Wicklow 0-14
Carlow 0-7
Mick O'Dwyer's charges laid the foundations for their win - which takes them to joint top of the division along with Limerick, Clare and Waterford - in the first half when they built up a 0-7 to 0-3 lead. Despite playing with the wind, they had only two points on the board after 20 minutes, but they went on to lead by four at half-time.
Things went from bad to worse for Carlow in the second half when they had wing back Alan Curran sent off on a second yellow card, and corner back Padraig Murphy suffered a similar fate soon after.
Despite their numerical advantage, Wicklow only led by 0-10 to 0-6 at the end of the third quarter, but they finished with four unanswered points from Seanie Furlong, Ciaran Jones, Paul Cunningham and Paul Earls to keep their promotion hopes alive.
