Senior and U21 footballers face tough assignments

March 05, 2010
It's a big weekend for the Wicklow senior and under 21 football teams who face important games against Carlow and Laois.

On Saturday, Tim Healy's under 21 side face Laois in the Leinster championship quarter-final, having already accounted for Longford in the opening round by 3-13 to 0-10. Two years ago, Wicklow shocked Laois in Portlaoise, but that defeat should have the O'Moore County on their guard this time around.

On Sunday, Mick O'Dwyer's senior team will entertain neighbours Carlow in round four of the National League. After losing to Clare in their opening game, Wicklow have got themselves into a position to challenge for promotion with wins over Leitrim and London, but they are unlikely to get anything easy from a Carlow side who are on a high after capturing the O'Byrne Cup Shield last weekend.

This weekend also sees the start of the 2010 competitions in the county with a full round of Division 1 league games down for decision.
