Wicklow injuries not too serious

June 16, 2009
Wicklow's injury list after last Sunday's Leinster SFC extra-time defeat to Westmeath isn't as bad as was first feared. However, wing back Paddy Dalton is unlikely to play any part in the All-Ireland qualifiers after it was confirmed that he broke his right collarbone in two places. The news isn't as bad for corner back Alan Byrne, who damaged shoulder ligaments, while full back Damien Power suffered tendon and ligament injuries to his ankle. It was initially feared that both players had suffered broken bones. Wicklow were furious that Cavan referee Joe McQuillan had allowed play to continue while Power received treatment from both the Wicklow and Westmeath team doctors in the second half. The situation was compounded when Power's marker, Conor Lynam, scored a crucial point for the Lake County during the same period. Attacker Paul Earls finished the game with a dead leg, but is expected to be fit for the first round of the qualifiers on the weekend of July 4/5.
