Leinster JFC: Skelly fires Longford into decider

June 11, 2009
Longford 0-8 Wicklow 0-7 Substitute Willie Skelly was the Longford hero at Edgeworthstown last night when his late point gave them a dramatic Leinster JFC semi-final victory over Wicklow. The midlanders, who had accounted for a fancied Meath side in the last round, led by 0-5 to 0-3 at half-time thanks to three fine points from Paul McKeon. And they extended their advantage with further points from McKeon (free) and Colm Flynn after the restart. However, Wicklow then enjoyed their best spell which yielded four points, one of which came from a Dara O'Sullivan penalty. But just when it seemed extra-time would be needed, Skelly scored what proved to be winning point with five minutes remaining to set up a final date with Louth.
