New Wicklow football manager John Evans says he's eager to start the rebuilding process in the Garden County.
Evans was ratified to a three-year term last night, succeeding former Dublin midfielder Johnny Magee, and told RTÉ 2FM's Game On programme this evening that he was thrilled to be handed the reins.
"I'm delighted and honoured to be the new Wicklow football manager," the Kerry native said.
Evans steered both Roscommon and Tipperary to league promotions in his inter-county managerial career and has immediately cited promotion from Division 4 as the chief target for his new side.
"It's about rebuilding; that's my strength, that's my forte. Building teams, looking at talent, finding new talent and developing the new talent," he stated.
"Johnny Magee has had a tough time in a very difficult transition period for Wicklow. We'd hope the groundwork he has done will stand to us from here on in."
He added: "Obviously the first thing, whether it takes one year or two years or three years, is to get out of Division 4.
"That was big for momentum in Tipperary and Roscommon - after the second year we were out of where we were, and suddenly, hey presto, everybody is interested in you."
