The Clann na Gael and Castledaly Tournaments

The boys and girls of Garrycastle were magnificent once again as they competed in the 'A' finals of the Clann na Gael tournament on Saturday the 23rd and the Castledaly tournament on Sunday the 24th of September.

In the Clann na Gael tournament our under 10's and under 9's competed in two separate games against a strong Ballinasloe outfit, with the aggregate score of the two games deciding the victors. Each and every child delivered terrifically well and managed to come out on the right side of the tie, becoming the first ever Garrycastle team to win this prestigious tournament. This achievement was no mean feat when the quality of opposition is taken into account. Along the way, the boys and girls overcame Clann na Gael, St. Brigids and Ballinasloe, taking on some of the best that Roscommon and Galway has to offer and acquitting themselves magnificently.

There was no time to rest however as the boys and girls were out again on Sunday in the 'A' final of the U10 Castledaly tournament against an impressive Maryland/Tang team. Despite the quick turnaround, Garrycastle managed to pull together a superb display to make history for a second time in two days, becoming the first ever Garrycastle team to win the Castldaly tournament. A big congratulations must be extended to all of the boys and girls for their fantastic commitment and eagerness to learn throughout the year. A special mention must also be given to James McHugh as he was named the player of the tournament for 2017.

Our season concluded on Sunday the 1st of October as the boys and girls competed in a street league at the Family fun day. Despite the wet and windy conditions, the children enjoyed two competitive games along with a warm reception from parents and supporters as they received their medals. Congratulations to Dylan Moloney (U9's) and Conor McCormack (U10's) who were awarded with the attendance awards. The Boys attended nearly every single session throughout the year and this undoubtedly contributed towards their superb development.

It has been a terrific year for the boys and girls. The skills of the children have developed superbly through the year and this has been clear to see with the children reaching four finals in Cellbridge, Rochfortbridge, Clann na Gael and Castledaly, taking home the silverware in all four. We wish the boys and girls a nice break and we look forward to seeing them all again next year for another super year.
