Crookedwood GAA Notes

September 26, 2017

Intermediate Championship

Crookedwood 0-11 Fr.Daltons 1-13. We exited the 2017 championship at the hands of a tough Fr.Daltons team at the semi-final stage. In a game where we never hurled (or were let hurl) to our full potential, we were still in the game as full time approached as we trailed by only two points. However, as we searched for the all-important winning goal Daltons hit us on the break and sealed the win with a goal of their own. Both teams were slow to start with the first point of the game coming in the fifteenth minute, a Fr.Daltons point from play, from there on both teams traded points and we held a slender two point advantage at the break. Indeed, if it wasn't for the crossbar deflecting Ian McGoverns rasping shot (after a great solo run) over the bar we would've held a more commanding lead at half time. However, the second half belonged to the victors. Some strong forward running resulted in needless frees being conceded by our lads, while we struggled to trouble the umpires at the canal end, only shooting three points in the second half. At the end of the day ill-discipline cost us this game, as we matched our opponents scores from play, but the Daltons free taker took full advantage to register eight points from placed balls. So once again our year ends in disappointment, and we can only hope that next year brings some joy. Fr.Daltons deservedly move on to contest the IHC final with Ringtown next Saturday, we wish both teams the best of luck. Team: A.O'Mara, J.Kiernan, D.Grifferty, D.Hyland, K.Orme, E.Nally, N.Kiernan, B.McLoughlin, S.McGovern (0-1), R.Wallace, B.O'Mara (0-8), H.Reilly, I.McGovern (0-2), N.Yourell, E.Murray. Subs used: K.Yourell for Reilly, Ger Brennan for N.Yourell, J.Nally for J.Kiernan (inj), R.Crowley for D.Grifferty (inj).

JHC

We were scheduled to play Castlepollard in the last round of the JHC at the weekend. Unfortunately the game had to be postponed due to a clash with football fixtures.
Fixtures.

Fixtures will be posted on the website and on Facebook as we receive them. They are also available to view in local papers and www.westmeathgaa.ie

Local Football

Well done to Multyfarnham on their comprehensive victory over Athlone in the Junior semi-final, they now advance to play Ballynacarragy in the final. Bunbrosna had a tougher game against St.Malachys in the Intermediate quarter final, but nevertheless emerged four point winners after a gutsy display. Their opponents in the semi-final in two weeks time will be St.Marys, Rochfortbridge. We wish both clubs all the best with their preparations.

All Ireland Football Tickets draw.

Kieran McKenna was the lucky winner of the two tickets for the football final.
