After six decades hurling, Bill takes a rest

June 26, 2014
The GAA community in London was saddened by the news of the death of former Cu Chulainn's hurler Bill Kiely.

The Waterford and Cappoquin native emigrated to London in the 1950s and played for the Cu Chulainns for six decades (1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000), eventually finishing his career at 66 years old.

In recent years, Bill and his wife had returned home to Ireland to set up home in Mayo where his wife is from and was believed to be very active up until his passing.

Before heading to London, Bill lined out for the Waterford minor hurlers, but once he headed across the Irish Sea, his allegiance remained with Cu Chulainns for many decades afterwards.
