What they said ... the hurling weekend in quotes

"Anytime you beat Kilkenny is a good day. Because no matter what 15 guys they have, they give everything. But I thought we matched them for intensity and we showed great character to push on when it was tight."

Offaly manager Eamonn Kelly enjoyed their Walsh Cup victory over Kilkenny.

"There is far too much hurling. I've won a few Walsh Cups but I would question whether it has run its course too. There is a lot going on in the season and maybe leave this time of year free for the third-level colleges."

Kilkenny U-21 manager Eddie Brennan patrolled the sideline for the defeat to the Faithful County.

"We wanted it, with the wind. We showed a bit of heart, a bit of character, and we got that. 3-17 is good scoring any time of year, and any time you come to Cork and win you'd be happy too. We have a lot of young fellas in this year."

Limerick and TJ Ryan secured their second win from as many Munster SHL outings at Cork's expense in Mallow.

"The league has been good for us. We've been able to see a lot of players and we're a new management team as well, but the three goals, that's something that's been happening to Cork for a few years and it's something we plan to sort."

Cork will learn from the lessons of their defeat according to selector Pat Ryan.

"I'm happy with the lads, they played really well. We are in the middle of hard training, the same as Waterford are. The Munster league is about how you use it. We had some of our first team players out there and we use it as part of our training. Waterford probably did it differently, they used it to sort out their panel. You won't judge anything on today."

Davy Fitzgerald and Clare scored a 1-20 to 1-9 victory over Waterford.
