Kerry come up short once again in Boston

July 13, 2015

Kerry come up short once again in Boston in a most entertaining game of football in extremely hot conditions on a score line of 2-11 to 1-11. Kerry went in at the half ahead by 2 points as they were much sharper than Donegal. Kerry raced into a 5 point lead in the 1st quarter with points by Robby Croft 0-3 (two frees), Ronan Kennedy and Shane O'Callaghan a point each. Shane was in on goal but his shot was saved but he got the rebound and he struck it over the bar. At the other end Micky Kelly opened the scoring for Donegal with a well taken goal. One minute later Shane O'Callaghan set up David Larkin and he had the ball in the Donegal net.  Micky Kelly added 3 points from frees. Ronan Kennedy hit 2 points from play for Kerry. Robby Croft set him up for the first and Joe O'Shea for the second. Paddy McBride and Nickey Kelly had a point each to close out the half with the score Kerry 1-7 Donegal 1-5.

Both sides traded scores within a minute of the restart of the second half. Paddy McBride put Donegal ahead shortly after with their second goal and again Kerry drew level with a Robby Croft free to make it 1-9 to 2-6. Rory Kavanagh added 2 rapid points for Donegal but Shane O'Callaghan responded with a long range point and he added a second point shortly after but it was Nickey Kelly who sealed it for Donegal in the end with a tally of 1-6 while Paddy McBride added 1-2. Shane O'Callaghan had a fine game for Kerry scoring 3 points from play. Ronan Kennedy also had an excellent game for Kerry with 4 points 2 from frees but it was Joe O'Shea who had the game of his life and was man of the match for his efforts. Also playing well were David Larkin, Jamie Barry and Sean Driscoll.
