Our Guest of Honor this year is PJ Smith a native of Ballymahugh.  PJ has given many great years to the Club and is presently Club Chairman.  He is indeed a worthy recipient of this honor.

We will also award Players of the Year to the following for their contributions: Senior Players Gavin Joyce (Ballymartin, County Down) and Conor Hogan (St. Barnabas, New York), Junior Dan Shanaghy (Lacken) and Ladies Player of the year Aoife O'Rourke, (Donaghmore/Ashbourne, Co. Meath).

If you can not make the dance a great way to support the club is by taking out  a journal  ad, with ads costing $200 for gold page,  $100 for full page and $75 for half page.  All checks should be made payable to the Cavan Football Club of New York.   Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, all ads must be in by Monday, November 24th no exceptions.  The Journal Chairperson is Rosie O'Reilly  914-426-6977 and her mailing address is 24 Harding Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704. You can also contact Paddy Reilly (Castlerahan) at 973-768-0455 and by e-mail [email protected]  for any additional information.

Senior Football
Our Senior team failed to make the play-offs but this was not for want of effort from the players or team Managers Michael Sloan or his selectors Mike O'Reilly, Brendan Reilly and Ciaran McCabe.  Their quest for honors went down to the last game where they were beaten by Monaghan.  Our many thanks to the Players, Managers and Selectors.

Ladies Football
The Cavan Ladies did not make it to the Sean Faherty Championship final this year having been beaten by Na Fianna in the semi-final.  However, the building effort for next year has begun already and they hope to be back in 2015.
The Ladies will hold their 23rd annual dinner dance on Saturday, November 29th in Maestro's Caterers in the Bronx.  This year's Guest of Honors will be Division 3 Feile Champions, with Keelan McLaughlin of Crana Electric receiving the Collette Horkan Memorial Award.  Crana Electric came onboard this year as the main sponsor of the New York Ladies team.

Junior Football
2014 proved to be a great year for our Junior team as they won the New York Junior Championship for the first time since 1979.  They also won the league.  Congratulations to Manager Ciaran Shields, his selectors, Mike Reilly, Ciaran McCabe, Michael Smith, Phil Reilly and the following panel of players:
Mark Galligan - Crosserlough, Steve O'Conor - Antrim, Dan Shanaghy - Lacken, Barry Dalton - Mullahoran, Eoin McPhillips - Denn, Ryan Hennessy - Donegal, Dan King - Mullahoran, Michael Smith - Mullahoran, Brendan Reilly - Mullahoran (Captain), Sean McGivney - Denn
Tommy Warburton - Westmeath  Chris O'Dowd - Killeshandra, Rory Brendan - Killeshandra, Liam Farrell - Down, James Galligan - Lacken    Brian Murray - Fermanagh, Rory O'Connor - Roscommon, Seamus Kelly - Wexford, Paddy Smyth - Meath, Francy O'Rourke - Leitrim
Eoin Ward - Leitrim, Colm McGinn - Down
After a strong showing in the round robin where they only lost two games Cavan faced a formidable team in Westmeath in the semi-final.  After a hard fought encounter Cavan ran out winners by 3-8 to 1-6, so the scene was set for a great final against a strongly fancied Longford team.  But this Cavan team was up to the task and despite losing two key players to injury early (Owen Ward and Eoin McPhillips) they ran out winners 3-8 to 0-12.  Man of the Match was Lacken native and son of the great Jimmy Galligan, James Galligan who gave a master class in midfield play.  So congrats to all, our first Junior Championship since the days of Rehill, Denneny, Sheridan, Moynagh, McKiernan, Duggan, the late Sean Leddy and Sean Smyth, whom your prayers are asked for as he is recovering from a bone marrow transplant.  We wish him well.
