All 3 Donegal teams playing in this weekend's Boston Football Championship semi finals

August 14, 2014
A huge weekend ahead for Donegal GFC Boston club as all 3 of our teams play in the semifinals of their respective Boston football Championships.

Our senior side will face Shannon Blues on Sunday at 2.30 at the Irish Cultural Center in Canton and the Blues will be hoping to make amends for the 16 point defeat to Donegal just 2 weeks ago in the last league game of the season. Donegal are coming off a 1 point victory over Kerry in last weekend's quarter final and know they are lucky to be in the semifinal after a late Stephen Griffin point secured the smallest of victory margins. Donegal last made it to the senior final in 2012 when the Blues snatched victory in extra time so there is plenty of history between these 2 sides. Donegal will be looking to top scorers Stephen Griffin, Sean "Yank" Boyle and Daniel McLaughlin if they are to make it to this year's final.

Our Junior A's will face arch rivals Aidan McAnespies in Sunday morning's semifinal. Donegal last lifted the Pat Callaghan cup in 2012 and will be hoping to go one better than our final defeat to the Wolfe tones in 2013. Confidence is running high after our Junior A team went through this season undefeated but the team knows that will count for nothing against a Macs team who are out to made their first final decider since 2011. This Junior A team has a good blend of youth and experience, with stalwarts such as Jonathan Byrne, Pauric McLaughlin and Declan Scott and summer recruits such as Peter McLaughlin and Eoin Grant. Also target man Christopher McLaughlin will hope to continue his scoring form.

The Junior B's are reigning 2013 divisional champions and hoping for back to back finals for the first time in their history. They face a stern challenge on Saturday night against a Cork team with whom they shared a victory apiece during league play. Donegal will be looking to a number of their American born players such as Mark Dunphy, Kieron McDevit and Christopher Rush to provide some spark and lead them to victory. Other more experienced campaigners from last year's victory such as Jason McDaid, Hugh Devine, Matthew Cuttliffe and Philip McCafferty will need to be on top of their game to ensure Donegal will be defending their title on finals weekend.
