'It's a million to one chance'

Ian Galvin has been selected for the position of manager of the New York footballers.
New York will have just one Mayo man in their ranks when they take on the Connacht side in six weeks time.

Ballyvary native Ray Coyle will be part of the New York side that will play Mayo in the Connacht SFC in May and although he admitted to the Western People that it is a long shot that the Exiles will cause a surprise, he stressed that they will be giving it their all.

New York have been boosted by the acquisition of Galway's Nicky Joyce, Laois midfielder Brendan Quigley, Donegal's Ross Wherity and Offaly forward Brian Connor to name just a few and Coyle feels that this gives them a glimmer of hope.

"It's a one in a million chance, but it's still a chance," said Coyle. Especially with this being the 100 year anniversary of New York GAA, there's a bit more emphasis on it, to show that New York football is going well and that it's as strong as it can be.

"We met the first weekend in November for a team meeting and it started from there. We were doing gym sessions from then on and we were on the field from the second week in January - three times a week on the field and once in the gym."
