St Josephs GAA London club notes

All County League(Division 5)
St Josephs 5-4  Milltownpass 2-18
It's very rare to score five goals and lose but we managed that in a topsy turvy game at the community field on Saturday 13th September. In a game which we needed to win to retain Division 5 status for next season, we fell short at the end despite a battling and very brave second half performance. We had a great turnout of players on the day but a lack of sharpness especially in the opening half ultimately cost us the game.  St Josephs trailed by 0-9 to 0-2 at half time and while we did come under some pressure did miss a good portion of chances which should have left a narrower margin at the break.  The second half saw Milltownpass extend their lead early on and the only option was to try and claw our way back into the match with goals. To that end we succeeded very well but just fell short at the end. Goals from Andy Scally, a converted penalty by Niall Moran and goals from Wayne and Andrew Mc Cormack saw St Josephs trail by 4-3 to 1-15 with ten minutes remaining in the game. During that opening 20 minute period of the second half, we had carved out three more clearcut goal opportunities but the burst of energy took its toll and in the end while Padraig Moran did score our fifth goal, it wasn't just enough to claim the spoils. The game finishes our season at Adult level unless the Junior shield competition takes place which has not been pencilled in yet. It's a disappointment to drop down a level but there is great scope for improvement over the next 12 months with a number of younger players coming of age to blend in with the more seasoned campaigners. Five of the starting line up last Saturday were 19 years of age and younger while nine of the line up were 23 years of age and under. Time and dedication will see improvements but patience is required and 2015 will be another challenge.

Bon Voyage:
We wish Stephen Pettit and Niall Moran best wishes for the future as both guys headed to Australia over the course of last weekend. Stephen has headed to Adelaide for the foreseeable future while Niall is making Melbourne his base for the next six months or so. We do hope that their time in Australia is successful and hopefully the experience will go well for both of them. We also wish a safe journey home to David Slevin & family who were home from Buffalo USA for the past fortnight. David was our club chairman for a couple of years in the early noughties and a referee and former Scór competitor for the club.

Lotto €5200:
The Jackpot is getting bigger with every draw and at €5200 would make a nice prize for some lucky punter. Our most recent draw was held in Ryans on Monday 7th September and the numbers drawn being 1,6,10 and 19. There was just one match three winner that being Daire Lynam,Syonan,Streamstown who won €100. Next draw is Sunday 21st September in The Beech Tree.

AGM:
St Josephs plan to hold our Annual General Meeting in October. A provisional date of Friday 17th October but this will have to be confirmed over the next couple of weeks.
