Strabane Sigersons hosted their sixth annual Danny Rouse Memorial Minor Tournament on Saturday past at Páirc Mhic Sioghair, Ballycolman with Carrickmore St Colmcille's emerging as winners over Dromore St Dympna's in the decider. The host club Strabane competed alongside Newtownstewart St Eugene's, Carrickmore and Dromore with some fine football played throughout the day.

The conditions were far from ideal with strong winds, biting cold and eventually heavy rain arriving but it did not deter the players and management of the four teams involved who were no doubt using the competition as a springboard for the forthcoming start of the Tyrone Minor Leagues.

Following all of the group games which saw each team play three matches it was Carrickmore and Dromore who came through to meet in the final with the boys from Carmen winning through to clinch the title for the first time ever against a gallant Dromore side.

Warmest thanks are extended to the four clubs that participated with an extra special word of thanks also going out to the two referees involved Paddy Grimes (Beragh) and Cathal McCrory (Greencastle) and to those who assisted as linesmen and umpires.

Following the final, Sigersons Club Chairperson Eddie McDaid paid tribute to all the players and officials involved in the tournament and also the two referees. He reminded everyone of the contribution that the late Danny Rouse had made to Sigersons over the years bringing the club out of Junior football back in 1995 through to Intermediate level and for his help and promotion of the youth structures within the club.

He thanked the Danny's widow Eileen and fellow family members for their attendance with Strabane Club President John McCrory Senior presenting Eileen with a bouquet of flowers as a mark of appreciation.

A special word of appreciation is extended to the Rouse family who as always were in attendance and in particular to Eileen Rouse who kindly presented the Carrickmore captain with the Memorial Shield with the winning panel all receiving medals.

A word of appreciation also goes out to the Sigersons Minor management team who organised the event in conjunction with the clubs Youth Officer Jason Foley.
