Joe McMahon was always a no-fuss sort of footballer so it's hardly a surprise that his return to action after ten months slipped under the radar.

When the double All-Ireland medallist came on for the last 17 minutes of the Red Hands' comfortable Qualifier defeat of Louth in Omagh on Sunday, it was is first appearance on the intercounty stage since last August's All-Ireland semi-final loss to Mayo.

The Omagh St Enda's clubman seems to have finally won his frustrating ten-month battle with injury and is very much in the frame for the second-round Qualifier clash with either Armagh or Monaghan in eleven or twelve days' time.

"It's great to be back. It's last August since I've played a competitive game with Tyrone," the versatile McMahon told The Irish News.

"There's been plenty of hard work put in between the four walls of the gym and hopefully now I can get a chance to show all that hard work.

"It was very frustrating. I had just got myself back from the groin injury. I was back training and then I tweaked the calf in training. You tend to focus on one thing so much and then neglect other areas of the body.

"Thankfully, I'm back now playing and hopefully I can manage these injuries to the end of the season. I'll get back in training on Tuesday night again and look forward to the league game on Friday with the club, then back at it for the next game with Tyrone."
